Code for Philly: Open House Night

Details
Join us for our Open House night with Data Philly (https://www.meetup.com/DataPhilly/)! This is part our weekly format (https://codeforphilly.org/blog/brigade_update) at Code for Philly.
Come hang out at our Code for Philly Open House night! The last Tuesday of every month, we take a break from hacking to socialize and meet new people. These nights are designed for newcomers to the civic tech scene who want to find out more about what we do at Code for Philly. Open House nights are also a way for us to collaborate with other groups around the city doing equally cool things in the tech space.
This month we're collaborating with Data Philly, a community run group for anyone interested in gaining insights from data. Topics include (but are not limited to) predictive analytics, applied machine learning, big data, data warehousing and data science. They <3 data!
At this event Data Philly will overview a social-good project and continue on at our weekly hack nights. The project uses predictive analytics, applied machine learning, big data, data warehousing and data science to solve the larger problem of cancer.
Want to learn more about Data Philly before the meetup? Check out their Meetup group (https://www.meetup.com/DataPhilly/).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
• What do I need to know before showing up?
This is a casual event; you can come at any time, the schedule is just to help you know when we’re planning on giving certain talks. If you can only come for part of it, that’s okay! The night is what you make of it. You don’t need to bring anything, just show up, grab a nametag, and join a conversation.
• Who is this event for?
This event is for newcomers looking to get involved in the civic tech space, applying their expertise to helps solve social problems in Philadelphia. Sponsors that are values-aligned may support the evening and briefly speak about their work, but in general this is not an entrepreneurship/networking event. If you’re just there to recruit or looking for free help with your start-up (even if it’s an awesome socially-conscious one!), we’ll kindly ask you to leave.
• Do I need to be a coder?
No! We welcome civic hackers of all varieties. This is a social hour, we encourage newcomers to talk with people and explore where they can contribute their skills. Researchers, analysts, practitioners, designers, writers, photographers, have all contributed to Code for Philly projects and operations.
As with all our events, we require attendees to follow our Code of Conduct (https://codeforphilly.org/pages/code_of_conduct/).
