Join us for an Oscar Watch film as we get together to see the satirical-dark-comedy, DIGGER! The film is written/directed by Alejandro G. EARLY BUZZ: In addition to a polarizing response, DIGGER is generating some early award-season buzz, particularly for Tom Cruise. The film is bypassing the traditional Fall Festivals (Toronto, Venice, etc.) and will have its world premiere as the Royal Film Performance in September, just ahead of our Opening Night screening at the Drexel.

PLAN: Details confirmed! Here’s the plan: For DINNER BEFORE THE SHOW, meet at nearby BRASSICA by 5:30pm (I’ll try to be there by 5:20pm or so). Go through the line and we’ll grab larger tables as we go! If you haven’t been there before, it looks like counter service but it’s from the same folks that operate Northstar so you know the food is good! Keep an eye out for us and we’ll keep one out for you! For the MOVIE, please purchase your ticket for the 7:00pm showing and we’ll meet in the lobby area between 6:40 and 6:50pm! Arrive early (or purchase your ticket before dinner) to be the crowd! And be sure to mention you’re with the Movie Group for admission and concession discounts! PARKING is available along Main St or in the lot near Brassica!

Join us as we get together to see THE SOCIAL RECKONING, a biographical-drama-legal-thriller and follow-up the 2010 film, The Social Network. The film stars Jeremy Allen White, Wunmi Mosaku, Jeremy Strong and Mikey Madison as a young Facebook engineer who helped blow the whistle on the social network's most guarded secrets. DESCRIPTION: A companion piece to The Social Network, the film tells the true story of how a young Facebook engineer enlisted the help of a Wall Street Journal reporter to go on a dangerous journey that blows the whistle on the social network's most guarded secrets. The film is written-directed by Aaron Sorkin and stars newly minted Best Actress winner Mikey Madison, along with Jeremy Allen White, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr and Jeremy Strong.

MOVIE PLAN: Please purchase your ticket for the 1:40pm showing and meet inside the lobby area between 1:15 and 1:30pm! Matinee ticket prices just $7.50 and will move fast so advance ticket purchase as soon as possible is advised! DINNER PLAN: CHI THAI! Immediately following the movie, we’ll take a short drive up Hamilton to make the Movie Group’s first visit to Chi Thai! Family run for 36 years, their menu offers something for everyone, blending Chinese and Thai cuisine and featuring familiar favorites like crispy Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, exceptional soups, perfect curries, or my favorite, Kung Pao Tofu! A foodie delight, their kitchen uses zero pre-packaged sauces or pre-cut ingredients, ensuring everything is made from scratch! The entire menu can be customized to be made gluten-free, spicy, non-spicy, with lots of vegetarian and vegan options! The restaurant is located at 5577 North Hamilton Road, has plenty of nearby parking, and we’ll have a section of the restaurant reserved for the group! We’ll head there immediately following the movie. (Side note: This is a first-ever visit for the Movie Group. But, vegetarians/vegans in the group may remember this place from Veg Group get-togethers here about 20-or-so-years ago!)

Join us at this CMG Gives Back volunteer event as we get together to help those in need by serving brunch at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “create a better world” by helping serve those in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:

FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.

PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for BRUNCH from 10:30am to 12:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 10:20pm and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.

LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking and available in the surrounding area. Please see links / attachments for additional info / details.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve.
