Thriller Tuesday: HIGHEST 2 LOWEST v RELAY at the Gateway Film Center!

Join us for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Thriller event to see your choice of TWO great new films! Option 1 is HIGHEST 2 LOWEST, director Spike Lee’s neo-noir crime-thriller starring Denzel Washington as a titan music mogul who is targeted with a ransom plot. Option 2 is RELAY, a sleek-action-thriller starring Riz Ahmed and Lily James that follows a broker who breaks his own rules when a new client seeks his protection to stay alive. HIGHEST 2 LOWEST: When a titan music mogul, widely known as having the "best ears in the business," is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma. The film is directed by Spike Lee and is an English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 Japanese film High and Low, which is loosely based on the 1959 novel King's Ransom by Ed McBain (Evan Hunter). It stars Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wrigth, Ilfenesh Hadera, ASAP Rocky and Ice Spice (in her film debut). FIFTH COLLABORATION: Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for the 5th in their long working relationship! Previous collabs include 1990’s Mo’ Better Blues, 1992’s Malcolm X, 1998’s He Got Game and 2006’s Inside Man! BUZZ & ACCLAIM: Highest 2 Lowest film screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is currently earning a Certified Fresh 92% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes! RELAY: This sleek-action-thriller follows a broker between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten them as he breaks his own rules when a new client seeks his protection to stay alive. Relay stars Riz Ahmed, Lily James and Sam Worthington and is directed by David Mackenzie, who directed the excellent Starred Up and one of my all-time favorite films Hell or High Water! BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film is earning an excellent 82% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics call it a “thought-provoking,” “engaging” and “twisty throwback thriller!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywC__z5VgZM

PARKING: As a reminder, close/convenient parking is available in the nearby garage (just off High St, between 9th and 11th Ave). Have your parking validated at the theater ticket booth for $2 and you’re covered for the night!
