The film centers on a small mishap that triggers a chain reaction of ever-growing problems. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: This thriller follows a group of former Iranian political prisoners who face the question of whether to enact revenge on their tormentor. The film is a co-production between Iran, France, and Luxembourg and is France’s entry for Best International Film at this year’s Academy Awards. It was written/directed by Jafar Panahi, who is critical of the Iranian government and has been imprisoned several times, made the film without official filming permission from the Iranian authorities.

BUZZ & ACCLAIM: It Was Just An Accident premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d'Or (and later went on to win numerous other awards)! It is currently earning a tremendous 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which calls the film, “a defiant rebuke of authoritarianism that still delivers the entertainment value of a gripping thriller." This is currently being called the film to beat for Best International Film at next year’s Academy Awards and is a likely Best Picture nominee!
PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the upstairs lobby about 30 minutes before showtime. Once showtime is announced, advance ticket purchase via the GFC website is advised!
