Conscious Blacks in the DMV seeks to address the issues faced in the African-American community by promoting positive change through measures such as honoring cultural history, raising self awareness, personal development, and social justice advocacy. This group is for those (inclusive of all backgrounds) who share these ideals and want to have fun while meeting new people.

Embrace the season of renewal this May with a grounded, peaceful mind and a surge of creative energy. This immersive 2.5-hour experience offers a harmonious blend of gentle yoga, mindfulness practices, expressive journaling, and therapeutic art—all designed to help you release tension, cultivate inner calm, and awaken your creative spirit.
Led by Sherry Steine, RYT-500—Certified Therapeutic Restorative Yoga Teacher, Certified Aromatherapist, Certified Meditation Teacher, Author & Mixed Media Artist—and Melanie Stargell, MA, LCPC, RYT-200 Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Certified Yoga Teacher, and Sound Bowl Healer, this workshop is an invitation to move inward and start the year with clarity, calm, and creativity.REGISTER HERE
### What to Expect:
- Welcome & Intention Setting
The session begins with a warm welcome from Sherry and Melanie, who will introduce the workshop’s purpose. Together, they’ll guide you in setting a personal intention for calm, clarity, and creative flow in the year ahead.
2. Grounding & Slow Flow YogaSherry will lead a gentle, subtle yoga flow to help you ease into a relaxed state of mind and body. This mindful movement practice is designed for all levels, using soft, flowing movements and breathwork to release tension and connect deeply with yourself. The practice prepares you for open-hearted creative exploration.
3. Mindful Poetry & JournalingLed by Melanie, you’ll reflect on your aspirations, release mental clutter, and channel your thoughts into poetic expression, whether it’s your first time writing or you’re already a poetry lover. This mindful practice helps uncover insights, release emotions, and spark creative ideas for the New Year.
4. Expressive Arts ExplorationDive into a simple, therapeutic art project guided by Melanie that encourages self-expression and creativity without pressure. Art supplies will be provided, and the practice is focused on the joy of creation rather than the end result. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or simply curious, this session is designed to help you express yourself freely.
5. Restorative Yoga & Sound HealingTo bring the workshop to a peaceful close, Sherry and Melanie will guide you through a deeply relaxing restorative yoga practice, enhanced by the soothing sounds of singing bowls. This sound bath invites deep relaxation, helping release any lingering stress and harmonize your nervous system.
6. Closing Circle & Gratitude PracticeFinally, you’ll have the opportunity to reflect on your experience, share any insights or inspirations with the group, and close the session with a brief gratitude practice. This closing ritual helps seal the day’s experiences, leaving you with a renewed sense of calm and creative inspiration.
