About us
This group subscribes to the social aspect of the Blue Zones way of life. There are five regions in the world where there is a high percentage of people living to their 100s. Their longevity is due to a range of factors. Social connection is a big one.
Loneliness is literally a killer. Studies have found that loneliness can increase the odds of early death by 26 percent — which is an influence comparable to smoking and greater than that of obesity. Social isolation is also associated with cognitive dysfunction and, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a 50 percent greater risk of dementia.
In 1985, American adults had an average of three close confidants. By 2004, the average was two, and roughly one in four Americans reported having no close confidants at all.
Being connected to your community can lower your mortality risk by 45 percent. This is what people in the Blue Zones excel at.
This group aims to expand our circles of casual and close social connections in a COVID safe way. Interested in a masked walking group in Sacramento? Want to cook in parallel virtually? Want to do a happy hour virtually? The ideas are endless. Looking for people who want to make a connection and we're open to socializing ideas, either in person or virtually. This group is also family friendly - playdates are welcome!
