Tahoe Rim Trail Conditioning Hike on the Appalachian Trail

Do a 9-day backpack trip on the best-known and longest long-distance foot trail in the world. The plan is to meet just north of Pawling, NY at the Appalachian Trail train stop and hike southbound to Greenwood Lake, NY. Lodging will be shelters, campgrounds, and a motel in Southfields. This trip will be good preparation for those preparing to do similar hikes this summer. Recommended for experienced backpackers.
Distance: about 80 miles
Terrain: mountains, substantial elevation change
Dates: June 1-June 9
Shortest day: 3 miles
Longest day: 12 miles
Where to meet: 3299 SR 55, Pawling, NY
Requirements: all necessary gear, able to hike 12 miles in mountainous areas, be trail self-reliant.
Transportation: Southwest Airlines flight from Columbus to NYC and back.
