More Cattail and Teasel Removal

Details

Join Beaver Creek Wetlands Association to continue removing cattails and teasel from Zimmerman Prairie State Nature Preserve. This property, owned by ODNR, is not open to the public. Saturday is your chance to see the beauty in this preserve and help keep it that way! 🌱

  • Tools: manual hedge clippers, machete, pruners or loppers for cattail work if you have them, we have some to borrow
  • Bring work gloves, muck boots recommended, water, bug spray, sunscreen

Tasks Include:

  1. cutting cattails down to the ground. The work area was treated for the first time last year, so the cattails are stunted and thinned out.
  2. severing the taproot of teasel with specially designed shovels (bring if you have one, some will be provided).
  • Parking: Bales Arena
  • Crew Leaders: Debbie Karr, Jim Schneider
