Toastmasters For Health

Details

We are a fun, supportive group of (mostly) public health professionals. We meet every Thursday from 12:00pm-1:00pm via Zoom. Please RSVP for the Zoom link.

Toastmasters for Health was founded and chartered as a local club of Toastmasters International in May 2013. Our goal is to improve our leadership, communication skills and to provide a supportive environment for our members through prepared speeches and constructive evaluation.

It all happened during a happy hour at work, when two colleagues at UCSF Global Health started talking to a colleague who is getting his MBA and speaks English as a second language. He used to be a priest giving sermons, but felt very nervous in front of the class giving his presentations. Right then they made a pact to start a Toastmasters at work. It didn’t take long. A few phone calls with Toastmaster headquarters, setting up an Open House so Toastmasters could come and give a presentation, and sponsorship and support from UCSF Global Health Sciences who gave us our initiation payment. As more people from UCSF joined and from surrounding offices we steadily grew into a uniquely functioning group. There are people now in the club at diverse levels and the ex-priest has gained confidence over the past year to give presentations at school and at work.
