What we’re about
Do-it-yourself biological innovation! We're inspired by the California group "biocurious", like them, we believe in the power of open source, open access, and learning in community. We believe this philosophy should be applied to biology!
This year has not only witnessed the flourishing of our internal projects but also the establishment of meaningful connections with other DIYbio communities in NY and Vancouver. Through these collaborations, we've broadened our toolkit, shared insights, and collectively strengthened the presence of DIY biology enthusiasts. We are filled with anticipation for the continued growth of our community and the possibilities that lie ahead in our pursuit of scientific exploration and discovery.
We have had several Eventbrite courses this year and will have more OFFSITE through a community biology initiative. THANKS!!!

See all- Wet lab Wednesday Returns with preparing for CloningHacklab, Toronto, ON
This Wednesday DIYBio welcomes you to our Meetups at Hacklab.to!
We have a few DNA templates that we want to put into a plasmid for safe keeping. Whether you’re brand new to cloning or have done some cloning before, we will be doing a practical, accessible intro to one of the most powerful tools in molecular biology. We'll walk through the process step-by-step, and you'll have a chance to get involved at the bench. This week we will design our cloning strategy, purify the PCR fragments and possibly do a ligation. It’s a great way to learn basic molecular techniques while also geeking out about cloning. If you wanna bring your own DNA sequence in to design primers for PCR and cloning, contact the organizer (Madlab).
As always, we’ll also have open discussion and updates on other community projects happening at the lab. Come meet other biology-curious folks, share ideas, and see how you can get involved.
At DIYBio.to, our mission is to bridge the gap between biology and the community by making science hands-on, approachable, and meaningful. Our events are hosted in an inclusive space where curiosity is always welcome.
Check out our ongoing work and projects at diybio.to, and our outreach initiative at experiment.com/.If you're interested in digging deeper, we’ll also have information about our more in-depth PCR course—designed to help anyone learn how to design, run, and interpret PCR experiments independently. No pressure, just options!
Membership: If you share our passion and vision, we invite you to become a member of hacklab.to and DIYBIO.to. Come visit us, and let's engage in a conversation about DIYBIO.to. Your journey into the world of DIY biology awaits!
Please remember to ask before taking someone’s photo. Respect others and our shared space. We are committed to maintaining a harassment-free environment for everyone. By attending, you agree to help us keep our community welcoming and respectful.
Donations welcome to keep our space going and filled with all the kits and equipment needed for community biology projects!
