Real-Time Meetup: Druid Roadmap + Success Stories from Conviva & ThousandEyes

Details
Location: Codi Office - The Codi office is on the street level, in the middle of the breezeway, near the escalators, and next to the garden sitting area.
The Bay Area Apache Druid meetups are back! Join us for one of the most exciting, local, in-person Druid events of the year.
Learn what’s new and what’s next for Apache Druid from Imply and hear from data engineering leaders at Conviva and ThousandEyes (Part of Cisco) on how they use Druid to power their real-time analytics products.
Imply will also be diving into the highly anticipated Druid 2023 roadmap. Discover the latest breakthroughs, cutting-edge features, and game-changing updates that will shape the way you harness the true potential of Apache Druid from supporting nested JSON columns to separation of storage and compute.
Topics will include:
- What’s new in Apache Druid 26.0
- Preview of the Druid roadmap to see what’s coming later this year
- Real-world case studies from ThousandEyes and Conviva
There will be snacks as well as plenty of time for networking. Space is limited, so RSVP soon - we will be capping registration.

Presentation #1:
Unveiling Apache Druid's 2023 Roadmap and 26.0 Updates
Will Xu, Druid PM, Imply
Will Xu, Imply PM for Druid, will lead an exclusive presentation that unveils the exciting roadmap for Apache Druid in 2023 and beyond. Since November 2021, Apache Druid has been evolving in major ways. The addition of the multi-stage query engine has flung the door wide open for new features and improvements like simplified data ingestion and SQL-based, in-database transformation.
During this presentation, we will highlight the key features and improvements introduced in Druid 22 and beyond, including:
- New Query Performance Enhancements
- Easier Scalability Improvements
- Separation of Storage from Compute
Will will also cover the Apache Druid roadmap on what features are on the horizon including rich analytics capabilities using Window Functions, concurrent compaction and ingestion, cold tier, and more!
Presentation #2:
Unlocking the Potential of Network Insights with Apache Druid
Gabe Garcia, Engineering Manager of Data Platform, ThousandEyes (Part of Cisco)
ThousandEyes enables organizations to see and take action to maintain and optimize every digital journey that matters. From application experience to hop-by-hop network path and performance, ThousandEyes provides end-to-end visibility from every user to any application, over any network
Apache Druid has enabled ThousandEyes to reduce dashboard latency by 10x and provide their customers with a real-time, interactive view of their terabytes of data - while unlocking numerous new external and internal use cases.
In this talk, Gabe Garcia, Software Engineering Manager at ThousandEyes will discuss their adoption of Apache Druid in ThousandEyes for customer-facing real-time analytics, and how we reduced our dashboard load time by over 10x with Druid. We will discuss the company's adoption of Druid, the various use cases, and future plans to incorporate Druid's latest developments.
Presentation #3:
Streaming Media Intelligence with Apache Druid
Pawas Ranjan, Director of Engineering, Conviva
Conviva is the leader in streaming media intelligence, powered by its real-time platform. With video content consumption exponentially increasing, there are now over 100 million points of potential failure that could degrade the video quality for viewers and thereby impact the revenue. In this talk, Pawas Ranjan, Director of Engineering at Conviva will discuss how Druid is enabling low-latency analytics today and how they are thinking about growing for years to come. Pawas will also demo Conviva dashboards and showcase latency/slice and dice capability.
- Low Data Latency (when is the data available for querying) - Less than 100ms response time, less than 90 second data latency
- Reduced Query Latency - by drastically reducing ingest and query latency, Conviva has enable their internal and external customers to make decisions on the fly
- Enabling Free Form Real-Time Analysis - With Druid, Conviva does not have to pre-compute. Empowering Conviva with free-form filtering, group by and "slice and dice" the data.
- Introducing New Lines of Products - Leveraging Druid, Conviva has been able to tackle data challenges at scale. Additional initiatives have been kicked off which include rolling our new products and features to customers.
