DWeb Meetup Bay Area— Talk, Demo, & Dinner for the Decentralized Web

Details

Need a friendly community to accelerate your tech knowledge? A place where people with aligned values come together to share, collaborate and learn? DWeb Bay Area might just be your place.

Join us Tuesday December 3, 5:30 PM-9 PM at everyone's favorite digital library, the Internet Archive in SF, for a demo by Gabe Kangas, founder of Owncast.online -- self-hosted, open source, decentralized livestreaming that integrates with current broadcast platforms. Gabe will demo his alternative to Twitch, Owncast, a good alternative if you don't want to rely on the large companies, build something completely custom, or offer a service free from tracking, invasive analytics or advertising.

We will also be hosting an open dialogue about some BIG issues tonight!

  • In a decentralized movement, who decides what is acceptable and what violates our principles?
  • How do we harness the good in tech and technologists while standing up against behavior we find objectionable?
  • In this explosively divisive era, how do we move forward together in areas we agree upon?

Come eat, drink, connect and learn with DWeb Bay Area

FEATURED SPEAKER:

Gabe Kangas is the creator of Owncast; he's a media tech junkie, with a daily focus on native mobile application development, having worked in fintech, private cloud storage, live TV, a music streaming service, and more.
Previously, he had built tooling and clients around internet radio to support those sharing music to the world. And now with Owncast, he hopes more individuals and organizations can share their art, self expression, and whatever they can dream up with the world in a truly decentralized way, believing this is one way we reclaim the internet. One independent live video stream at a time.
