**All I want for Christmas** is… oh no, not more Mariah again (though her track Fantasy is still a dope tune). As it's a British tradition to go for a spirited drink on the eve of Christmas magic - how about joining to sip Pinot Noir, Guinness, French Martini or other another merry beverage over fun conversations encapsulating the holiday spirit? And then, when the mood hits and DJ is in full swing, singing random lines along to **Fairytale of New York** just like we did **Last Christmas**? Is it Xmas numero uno yet? Apparently this year some very questionable Kylie track has taken the crown! Whilst we await the the day of the big December miracle - as well as fun conversations and jokes - one of the resident DJs (not me) will be pumping out some Xmas party singalong crackers plus all usual feel good tunes for dancing whlst we do **another rock n roll xmas** glittery singalong - if the drinks flow endlessly, which no doubt they will....🍸🍻🍷🥂 This year we are back at the home of cool non-touristy music for real music fans - Camden - doing the **jingle bell rock** around the Xmas tree @ the Camden Eye - a neat cosy trendy young bar tucked away 13 second walk from the dusty but ponyless road adjoining Camden Tube station, 1.6 miles from Central London. First we will meet in the Elephant's Head for Pre-drinks and go to the Eye at 11pm for more socialising and dancing. Come **Silent Night** midnight mass - the DJ will be in full musical effect droppin eurphoric bangers so if you live in North London (zone 2) or Central London then this will be perfect xmas eve drinks and music bash as you can literally walk home without having to worry about no public transport after 12am. Try to wear something chrismasie. And make sure you answer the important screening question on your fav xmas song (a prerequisite for attending to ensure you actually like and enjoy key elements of xmas!). And I'll personally buy the first mull wine infused larger-shandy for the first person that can correctly guess all of the famous xmas tunes I have referenced above!!! **\-\-\-\-Strict Attendance Limits\-\-\-** Those of you who are fellow Camden music nightlife lovers or regulars to my events, you'll know the venue is small, very selective and they have limited bar staff to work xmas eve. The set list format should offer opportunities for those at different levels of developing their playing. While at the beginning one might struggle to follow/comp the chords or play through the melody, it gets easier over time and one can start to develop approaches to improvisation, harmonise lead lines, add intros/endings, work on communication between band members, and even listen to recordings together and pick up specific arrangements. Bass players are expected to be able to play a walking bass line on swing tunes, and simple bossa lines for bossa novas. Playing the melody, or "head" - the responbility is shared between horns players (e.g. sax, trumpet, violin), guitar and piano. Feel free to discuss among the group before each song - different parts of the head or the starting / ending heads can be played by different players. Some melodies will better suit several voices at the same time, whereas others are sensitive to variations in how they are played and may prefer a single instrument at a time. **What it's like** A relaxed and welcoming atmosphere - please put aside any worries of making mistakes if you’re thinking of joining us for the first time. **Summary** I love hiking [Highbanks](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/highbanks/) in the winter after the sun has gone down. Highbanks is never really dark -- there's too much ambient light from Lewis Center. But I love the trails at night. When I started hiking Highbanks, I was afraid of getting lost and particularly at night. But now that I know my way around, nighttime is one of my favorite times to hike there. In addition, near the end of our hike, we will take a few minutes to walk around the Nature Center and look at the Christmas lights. (The Nature Center itself will be closed, however, by the time we get to it.) We'll hike about 5 miles on the Dripping Rock and Overlook Trails. Last year, the weather wasn't too terrible, and the Brewery had their patio fire pits going and we were able to sit outside. The fire pits at night are kind of amazing. If you can't make the hike, we should be there by 7:45. **How to find our starting point in Big Meadows** If you are new to Highbanks, the Big Meadows picnic area is 1.5 miles into the park just after you turn into the park off of U.S. Route 23. That is, after you enter the park, drive a mile and a half into the park. You will come to a crosswalk with a yield sign in the middle of it (this is not to be confused with the first such crosswalk you come to just in front of the Nature Center, which you arrive at maybe a quarter of a mile into the park). Just after this second crosswalk, make a left. Then make another almost immediate left into the parking lot on your left. There you will see the jungle gym and the kiddie zip line to your left. I will be just in front of the restrooms just a bit further down from the jungle gym and picnic shelter; the restroom building will also be on your left. **Note on our starting time** Highbanks closes at 8:00 this time of year, and they get kind of snarly about getting everyone out of the park by then. So please be on time for this hike. I want to allow two hours for the hike and be back at Big Meadows by 7:30. So we're shoving off at 5:30, with or without a quorum.
