Dads in the City - Listen and Be Heard
This is a monthly group for fathers — a space to listen and be heard.
While fatherhood is something we all share, the group is not limited to talking about our children — it’s a space to talk about whatever is on your mind, with the understanding that we are all experiencing life through the lens of being a father.
\-\-\-\-\-
**When:** 7pm–9pm · Second Monday of each month
**Where:** 10-mins walk from Old Street or Barbican stations.
Full address to be shared to attendees via WhatsApp
**Price:** First session free · £25/month thereafter
\-\-\-\-\-
**What to expect**
* No need to bring anything — come as you are
* A non-judgemental space — you're free to speak openly, with no pressure to share anything you’re not comfortable sharing
* Small group of 7 dads (including me, Mem, your facilitator) to keep the space comfortable and focused
\-\-\-\-\-
Attendance is dependent on reading and agreeing to the [Ground Rules](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1K_jGrvkGZ0_8xnrd4yZ7lw4YlX0DlXL9).
This is an ongoing monthly group, and new members are welcomed when space allows. With more interest, another date will be added to allow more dads to take part.
If you're interested, and in order to confirm your place, please message Mem via WhatsApp on 07707 507 957 to arrange a quick call.

UPHOLSTERY – BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR – MONDAY EVENINGS
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/upholstery-bring-your-own-chair-monday-eve-21/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/upholstery-bring-your-own-chair-monday-eve-21/)
**⋆⋆⋆**
KEY PROJECT: RE-UPHOLSTERING YOUR OWN CHAIR.
Suitable for beginners and fun for advanced learners.
This workshop is led by Krasmira Nikolova, an experienced upholsterer.
We provide the use of all upholstery tools and equipment including compressed air staple guns. Basic upholstery materials that you require for your project will be moderately charged on a pay-as-you-use basis and will be dependent on each chair’s requirements. We can advise you on the purchase of your top fabric and we have a lovely library of fabric samples to help make up your mind. The Goodlife Centre sells all the basic tools and materials for use on projects worked on at home.
This is a fantastic chance to up-cycle and personalise a family piece you have at home or a junk shop find and a great way to immerse yourself into the wonderful world of upholstery.
The course is suitable for both beginners and those who have a basic knowledge but little experience who wish to extend their expertise.
**Choosing a suitable chair**
If you are a newcomer to upholstery, there are a couple of pointers to help you choose a chair to work on. Choose something that has one or two flat planes – a seat and a back – as curves and arms are more complex and take longer to achieve.
If you are a complete beginner, you could bring something more simple such as an upholstered footstool. More experienced upholsters can bring more complex pieces. Your chair can be traditionally built or modern, but be aware that some modern pieces have been constructed using machinery and are difficult to recreate by hand.
[Click here for a detailed PDF of suitable chairs.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2r8UvbQtaH5RTVKUjlBdkhDX3c/view?usp=sharing)
**Please email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk with a photo of your chair prior to the course so we can answer any suitability questions and advise if your chair is suitable**.
We have very limited storage at the centre, so we can only store smaller pieces during the course. Please make sure the total dimensions are less than 1000mm high by 750mm wide, with a depth of 750mm.
The use of tools and machinery is included.
All materials will be charged at nominal rates. Some materials will not be kept in stock but can be ordered. Approved projects can be stored at the centre. We cannot offer additional time to work on your project outside of workshop times.

**Suitable for:** Confident beginners
**Course length:** 6 weeks – afternoons
**Dates:** See below for individual dates/times
**Key tools:** Marking tools, hand saws, chisels, hand planes
**Project:** Flip-lid dovetail box
**Details:**
An absorbing five-week course for confident beginners and an enjoyable learning experience for anyone with a little woodworking experience. Using a fusion of hardwood and softwood, this five-week course will teach you the fundamentals of woodwork and give you an opportunity to use classic hand tools; brass-backed tenon saws, sharp wood chisels and delicately honed vintage wood planes.
This well-proportioned flip-lidded box is constructed of European redwood using a single dovetail joint at each corner and the fitted hardwood lid is attached to the base by a handmade ‘dowel’ peg hinge. The project will familiarise learners with many classic woodwork techniques and is taught with patience and enthusiasm by Andy Nicholl, who has devised this informative and challenging project.
You will take home a treasure to treasure- and we hope it will enthuse you to learn how to make many handmade woodwork projects in the years to come.
If your keyboard-weary hands have been needing the skill to fulfil and satisfy a yearning desire to create something you can hold, come and join us in our well-equipped and inspiring workshops and discover the wonderful world of woodwork.
**Key skills:**
* Measuring marking and cutting dovetail joints to make an accurate framed box.
* Planing and shaping a hardwood lid to fit the softwood frame base.
* Making and fitting a hardwood dowel joint to attach the frame base to the lid.

Come chat at Compton's with other gay dads (11-06-26)
Come for a chat over a bevvie upstairs at Compton's.
LGDM is mainly gay guys who have kids, chatting over a drink. We know the particular struggles of being gay and a father. We make it work, for us it is normal.
LGDMs are relaxing, fun, positive, encouraging meets. First-timers specially looked out for and warmly welcomed.
People come along as singles and couples, younger, older, out, not out, still married to a woman, divorced, trans and everything in between. 'Wannabe-Dads' and women are welcome too. Every racial group and faith/no faith background has come and been warmly included. Basically everyone from every imaginable background is welcome. The only condition is that you have an interest in gay dads being the best and happiest dads they can be.
If you RSVP "Yes" one of the leaders will know to be on the lookout for you but you're fine to just turn up too, we understand and respect some people’s need for confidentiality.
Plenty of blokes go for non-alcoholic drinks. No pressure, no judgements and no charge for this meetup.
Guys who've already been to at least one meetup can ping Glyn ([https://www.meetup.com/london-gay-dads-meetup/members/246662999/profile/](https://www.meetup.com/london-gay-dads-meetup/members/246662999/profile/)) to be added to the "LGDM Chat" WhatsApp group which we use mainly for social chat between meets (only house-rule is "no smut, no politics, no religion"), an invite should be sent with the "nice to see you!" that you get after attending.

FREE Men's Group in East London
**What are you doing** **next Saturday** late morning / early afternoon? Want to **come along and hang out**?
We're holding a FREE men's group in a venue that we've not yet checked out, though **it should be a buzz to hang out with some old friends and meet** some good new blokes.
Apparently, it's not the easiest place to find, so **leave early and come hang out early** if you like... I'll be there from 11am latest!
Please **check out the [Ground Rules](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC5rwT-ya6o&t=394s) before you attend the FREE men's group**.
**After our group** there will be [an option to attend this event](https://luma.com/8lxpgzc6) UNMASKED which is a paid for event, though because some of my MenSpeak friends / facilitators and I will be speaking you can get a **25% discount** using Voucher Code **SPECIAL**. *(So that's £26 instead of £35 unless you pay at the door.)*
[Nuradin](https://www.linkedin.com/in/nuradin-ali-98187387/), [Paul](https://www.paulharrild.com/sardinia), [Neil](https://www.linkedin.com/in/neilhanchettstevens/), [David](https://softestbreath.com/about/) and I talk about **the moments that broke us, shaped us and ignited the fire in our bellies** to become who we truly are.
We'll explore **purpose, resilience, identity and the tools we discovered** along the way.
We'll open the space for honest conversations around **masculinity, authenticity,** breakdown, breakthrough, **healing boyhood pain**, passion and personal power.
There will be lots of speakers, panels, etc. **2pm-6.30pm, then we'll hang out** **some more!**
Enough about the event *(**no pressure to stay**, you can leave after the group and even come back after the event)* the following is a cut and paste about the men's groups:
Do you sometimes lack purpose, passion and sense of belonging?
Would you like to explore who you really are, beyond money, muscles and monkeying around- and trying to fill an emotional hole with egotistical exploits, rather than trying to be whole?
Many men sadly turn to self-abuse such as, drink, drugs and porn and unhealthy relationships as a way of coping. Johann Hari said, “The opposite of addiction is not sobriety; the opposite of addiction is connection. Men's groups provide the social medicine men need."
In a nutshell a men’s group is men sitting together in their social community, workplace or online; talking and listening to one another\*,\* learning from each-other’s experiences.
It’s a place to explore who we are, who we no longer need to be, and how we can lead better, fuller lives. A place where we can grow in authenticity; a place without a pecking order, judgement, blame, or shame, where everybody knows your name.
**What The Media Are Saying**
"[MenSpeak Groups are… ] Press-ups for the mind and circuit training for the soul.” Tony Parsons from GQ Magazine
"He’s a gentle voice in the ears of the many men who come to him for help with life – he’s The Man Whisperer." Newsweek Magazine about MenSpeak Founder Kenny Marmmarella-D’Cruz
“[ Kenny Marmmarella-D’Cruz is the] .. Consultant, Coach and Guru of All Things Men,” Daily Express Magazine

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you were quoted in *Truth in Comedy*, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**!
The idea behind improvised comedy is to create entire scenes from scratch. A suggestion is taken from the audience and laughter is built on the spot. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway, Make Some Noise,* or *Wild 'n Out*; it can also be done in a longer way, to tell a complicated story, like *TJ & Dave*.
Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and FREE!) weekly comedy event, brings the games for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Afterward, many members will hang out in *Gresso's* itself and get to know each other. Not only is this a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, your public speaking, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and build relationships that will last a lifetime, and you do that while laughing your butt off!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "*Yes, And*" that you'll have a blast!
