In this throw-away age, when all the furniture we own is assembled and not built, we are pleased to offer an opportunity to spend some precious time learning how to use ageless tools to make something everlasting from wood. These 12 evenings are a perfect starting point for many aspects of woodwork that will give you the confidence to choose and replicate basic wood joints into other projects.
Using a mixture of traditional hand tools and modern drills and saws, experienced Woodworker, Len Conway will guide and inspire you as he teaches age-old techniques in joinery. As you begin making objects traditionally constructed from seasoned pine, you will learn how to use and care for chisels, saws, planes and spokeshaves. Len is an experienced woodworker and teacher.
Students will work on a variety of exercises – designed to incorporate simple to advanced joints and tools that build confidence and independence.
Over 12 weeks, we will cover many aspects of traditional carpentry tuition. There will be lots of practical exercises in each session including a project to make a simple frame table that you will take home.

Come chat at Compton's with other gay dads (11-06-26)
Come for a chat over a bevvie upstairs at Compton's.
LGDM is mainly gay guys who have kids, chatting over a drink. We know the particular struggles of being gay and a father. We make it work, for us it is normal.
LGDMs are relaxing, fun, positive, encouraging meets. First-timers specially looked out for and warmly welcomed.
People come along as singles and couples, younger, older, out, not out, still married to a woman, divorced, trans and everything in between. 'Wannabe-Dads' and women are welcome too. Every racial group and faith/no faith background has come and been warmly included. Basically everyone from every imaginable background is welcome. The only condition is that you have an interest in gay dads being the best and happiest dads they can be.
If you RSVP "Yes" one of the leaders will know to be on the lookout for you but you're fine to just turn up too, we understand and respect some people’s need for confidentiality.
Plenty of blokes go for non-alcoholic drinks. No pressure, no judgements and no charge for this meetup.
Guys who've already been to at least one meetup can ping Glyn ([https://www.meetup.com/london-gay-dads-meetup/members/246662999/profile/](https://www.meetup.com/london-gay-dads-meetup/members/246662999/profile/)) to be added to the "LGDM Chat" WhatsApp group which we use mainly for social chat between meets (only house-rule is "no smut, no politics, no religion"), an invite should be sent with the "nice to see you!" that you get after attending.
Coram Fields Summer Hang Out
After the success of last year, we're going back to Coram's Field. This is a large children's-only park in Bloomsbury, which is only accessible to adults if they are accompanied by a child under 16. There is a great adventure playground for older children, a large sandpit playground, a paddling pool, a wildlife garden and a large central lawn to sit on. Something for ages 0 -12.
Join us for a relaxed meet-up on the lawn where the kids can enjoy a bit of freedom, and we can form a base on the central lawn.
Bring a blanket, and obviously a picnic if you like. As there is a paddling pool, if the weather is good, maybe pack some swimmers and swim nappies if needed for your children. Ditto buckets and spades if your little one(s) like to play in the sand (my kid is big into digging holes...).
I will aim to make a base on the central green. To find us, look out for the pride flags. I will send my phone number to everyone who has RSVP-ed as attending by the night before, as it can be harder to remain seated on a base now that my child is older. Call me when you arrive.
The park is accessible by:
Tube - Russell Square/King's Cross/Holborn/Chancery Lane
Train - King's Cross
Bus - 17, 45, & 46 on Gray's Inn Road or 7, 59, 68, 91, 168, or 188 at Russel Square.
There is no parking onsite but metered parking locally.
Mini break for parents
This is a nice pub in Wrotham village to relax, chat, and share some laughter.
There is free parking at the venue around the back of the pub/restaurant.
