Coming Out, Being Out - Peer Discussion (Weekly)
**Description** Coming Out Being Out (COBO) is a peer discussion group that has served the LGBT community for over 15 years in downtown Toronto. We welcome all who identify under the banner of queer sexual orientation and gender identity. **What We Do** \|\-\| COBO participants are often seeking to: * Understand what experiences others have in coming out to family, friends and their respective communities. * Develop comfort in discussing their identity with others. * Meet others having the same experiences when it comes to living openly. * Receive the encouragement of peers. \|\-\| Regular topics of discussion include: * How people choose to come out (at work, with family, with friends). * Where to find others like us in the community. * Challenges and triumphs in navigating family and partner relationships. **Where & When** * Every Wednesday from 6-8pm * Community meeting space at Casey House - 119 Isabella St., Toronto **How to Access the Meeting** Registration on Meetup is not required to attend. Attendance is on a drop-in basis. The front door to our meeting space at Casey House is controlled by the main floor receptionist. To access the space when you arrive: * Press the button to the left of the main entrance door. * Tell the receptionist that you are there for the COBO meeting. * You will be buzzed in and someone from our group will come to show you to the meeting. Everyone is welcome, but we suggest a language level of A2 to take part. You are welcome to bring something along that you might like to discuss, or just come to talk about whatever. We'll try to answer your questions. We used to take notes on questions asked and suggestions made and post them on-line after the event. Those previous notes are available [here](bit.ly/3Fefuba); there are some good ideas about other learning resources -- many free -- that you might want to try. **Cancellation Policy** Due to high numbers of attendees that are last minute cancellations or no-shows, e.g., up to and even sometimes more than 80% of guests registering and then not showing up, if no reason or excuse is provided for a cancellation or no show from 24 hours before the event to 24 hours after the event, I will remove the offending user from the group. **Health Policy** We want to protect your health, the health of your fellow members, and the health of the staff members where we meet. Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Let’s do some coding together at a cafe! No more working alone in the weekend. Here, we write code together. And I mean together together. Not occupying-the-same-space-but-separate together. Here’s how it works: Jennifer brings her mobile app project, tells everyone that it is like Pinterest for recipes and she’d like to work on the nav bar. Paul and Chloe think Jennifer's project is fascinating, and they join the group. They gather around Jennifer’s laptop and work on the nav bar for 2 hours. Jennifer is the one typing out the code while Paul and Chloe research, brainstorm, and offer suggestions. If you’re feeling stuck on your own project or need a motivation boost, bring it to mob programming! Want to learn by watching how others code and solve problems? Join someone else’s project at this event! Oh and we love your half-done projects that you are a bit embarrassed to share. Absolutely bring those to the event! **Discord**: We use Discord to share screen & code snippets during the event. Also feel free to share your projects here before the event! https://discord.gg/yvAGbh4PpD **Event policy**: * We have 0 tolerance for harassment. * We don’t allow the projects that are not meant to be shared in public such as school assignments, interview tasks, or trade secrets. * The goal is to write code. We discourage you from pitching business ideas here, doing code reviews, or spending the whole event on planning what to do. * Please buy a drink, and tip the barista well.

🏙️🍔 LIBERTY VILLAGE, STACKT MARKET & THE WELL WALK 🍔🏙️
🏙️🍔 LIBERTY VILLAGE, STACKT MARKET & THE WELL WALK 🍔🏙️
🏙️🍔 LIBERTY VILLAGE, STACKT MARKET & THE WELL WALK 🍔🏙️ Old Industry, New Energy & A Food Hall Finish Some parts of Toronto have completely reinvented themselves — and walking through them feels like watching the city evolve in real time. This is a brand new walk — the first time we’re doing it — and it’s all about exploring three very different (and very cool) pockets of the west end. We’ll start in Liberty Village, once an industrial zone filled with factories and rail lines, now transformed into a buzzing neighbourhood of condos, creative spaces, and local energy. You can still feel the history in the brick buildings — it’s just been given a whole new life. From there, we’ll head to Stackt Market, a unique outdoor market built from shipping containers, full of pop-up shops, art, and ever-changing vendors. We’ll finish at The Well, one of Toronto’s newest and most talked-about developments, where we’ll settle into the food hall for a relaxed lunch together. This is not a formal tour. It’s a social walk — a mix of city exploration, light storytelling, and discovering places together. 👉 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) *** 🚶‍♂️ What We’ll Do We’ll meet at Wendy’s at King & Dufferin and begin our walk into Liberty Village, wandering through its streets and getting a feel for the neighbourhood. From there, we’ll make our way over to Stackt Market to explore, browse, and take it all in. Afterward, we’ll continue toward The Well, where we’ll wrap up the walk and grab lunch in the food hall. There are lots of options, so everyone can find something they like. You’re welcome to stay and eat or head out whenever you like. *** 🌦️ Weather & Expectations This walk will happen in typical spring weather — sun, wind, or light rain. As long as it’s not extreme conditions, we’ll be going ahead. Dress in layers and come prepared — this is April in Toronto. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Also — since this is our first time doing this route, we’ll be exploring it together a bit. That’s part of the fun. And as always — this is NOT a guided or historical tour. It’s about being social and enjoying the experience. *** 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Location: I will be waiting outside of Wendy’s at King & Dufferin 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Meetup Time: 11:00 AM I will only wait 5 minutes. Early is on time. On time is late. We’ll head out promptly, so please plan ahead. End Point: The Well (Food Hall) *** 🎟️ Meetup Fee: $5 cash in person or e-transfer to 📧 **mathewmaclean@hotmail.com** This helps support the group and allows us to keep hosting events like this. Thank you for supporting community! 💖 *** 🎒 What to Bring Water Comfortable walking shoes A small snack (optional) Weather-appropriate clothing (layers + rain-ready ☔) Optional: cash/card for lunch Please also use the washroom before arriving, as stops are limited. *** 🌈 Who Is This For? This group is open to anyone who wants to be social and make friends — whether single or not. We also host: 🎬 Movies 🚶 Walks & hikes 🎭 Arts & culture outings 🍽️ Restaurant gatherings There’s always something happening. *** REMEMBER: You’re welcome to just show up on the day if you’re unsure about your schedule. And as always, sometimes plans shift and events may need to be canceled — please keep an eye on updates. *** 👤 Organizer: Mathew Questions? Post on the event wall or email 📧 torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com Come for the contrast. Stay for the food. Leave feeling like you experienced three different Torontos — all in one walk. 🏙️✨

This is open mic style, so you might catch comics traveling through, a local favorite, somebody trying stand-up for the first time. Either way, **you’re getting laughs around a bonfire** with drinks, good people, and nowhere else to be. **Stay the night if you want** No rush. The Mercy of the Gods by James S. A. Corey
The Mercy of the Gods by James S. A. Corey
Join us for Mercy of the Gods by James S. A. Corey. How humanity came to the planet called Anjiin is lost in the fog of history, but that history is about to end. The Carryx - part empire, part hive - have waged wars of conquest for centuries, destroying or enslaving species across the galaxy. Now, they are facing a great and deathless enemy. The key to their survival may rest with the humans of Anjiin. Caught up in academic intrigue and affairs of the heart, Dafyd Alkhor is pleased just to be an assistant to a brilliant scientist and his celebrated research team. Then the Carryx ships descend, decimating the human population and taking the best and brightest of Anjiin society away to serve on the Carryx homeworld, and Dafyd is swept along with them. They are dropped in the middle of a struggle they barely understand, set in a competition against the other captive species with extinction as the price of failure. Only Dafyd and a handful of his companions see past the Darwinian contest to the deeper game that they must play to learning to understand - and manipulate - the Carryx themselves. With a noble but suicidal human rebellion on one hand and strange and murderous enemies on the other, the team pays a terrible price to become the trusted servants of their new rulers. Dafyd Alkhor is a simple man swept up in events that are beyond his control and more vast than his imagination. He will become the champion of humanity and its betrayer, the most hated man in history and the guardian of his people. This is where his story begins.
