Ikigai
Ikigai
Ikigai is a Japanese concept meaning "a reason for being" or "a reason to wake up in the morning." It represents the intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for, promoting a life of purpose and daily fulfillment. What is your Ikigai? **ATTENDANCE POLICY:** To keep this group running smoothly and ensure that spots are available for those who genuinely want to attend, please RSVP only if you are confident you can make it. If you RSVP “Yes” and do not attend without updating your RSVP in advance, you may be restricted from attending future events for a period of time. We understand that things come up. If you can no longer attend, simply update your RSVP as soon as possible so your spot can be offered to someone on the waitlist. Repeated no-shows will result in removal from the group. Thank you for respecting everyone’s time and helping us maintain a reliable and engaged community. **SUPPORT THINKERS AND DRINKERS:** Thinkers and Drinkers International is a registered 501(c)7 nonprofit organization. We work hard to create an organization that adds value to our communities while keeping membership free for all. Improv Workshop
Improv Workshop
Come join local improv troupe, the ***Home Improv Mints***, as we run through some of the basics of short form improv. Wear clothes you can move around in. We will start at **7:15**. We will run until just after 9 pm. Bring yourself and a willingness to try new things - like (insert audience suggestion here)! We try a different topic each session to see if it changes who sees the announcement. There might not be bobwhite imitations, hyena butter, lava floors, trans livestock, thalidomide twinkies or inflatable turnips (all things that HAVE come up), but we can promise something *random*. But we encourage you to bring cookies. NOM NOM NOM! We only have so many slots available. **Please don't RSVP as a yes *until* you are certain.** We limit the class size so everyone gets a chance to play, and ask for RSVPs so we know how many outlines to print and cookies to bring. We understand things change sometimes. Please message us if things change and you can't make it, rather than being a No-Show. Multiple No-shows get you put on the naughty list and may get you ejected from the group. Please don't make us do that. Please donate - *running* a Meetup group ain't free folks. Suggested Donation is $10/session. And feel free to bring more cookies. Everybody likes cookies. If you're keeping track, this one will be Workshop # 3. Hope to see you then!

Capoeira
Capoeira
Capoeira (capo-way-ra) is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that is unlike any other martial art. Capoeira incorporates flowing movements with kicks, dodges, and some acrobatics. It is often mistaken for a dance for those reasons. Since it’s origins in the 17th century, it has evolved from a secret fighting practice into an art emphasizing self-expression and community celebration. It is great for the body and mind! In addition to gaining strength and flexibility in class, students learn about Brazilian culture, history, and language (Portuguese). On November 26, 2014 capoeira was granted a special protected status as "intangible cultural heritage” by UNESCO. No need to have a Capoeira background to join this class, just an open mind to try out a new way to move! Beginners welcome. **Please reserve your spot at www.piesfitnessyoga.com**. The session is offered InStudio only. **Sign up for sessions must be made at least 2 hours prior to class.** The address is 1322 Prince St. Alexandria, VA 22314. Our entrance is located on the side of the building, parallel to West St. **Street parking is available and additional parking is located at Shiloh Baptist church, spaces 3,5,7,9.** The church is located across the street from the studio, on the corner of Duke St. and West St.
Discussion Group - Is Compersion Possible in Scarcity?
Discussion Group - Is Compersion Possible in Scarcity?
Let's get together in a warm and open atmosphere to talk about ethical non-monogamy and how we actually do it. Ask for advice, give some in return, meet and mingle with your peers. Let's kick back and get to know each other and learn a few things. TOPIC: The classic complaint of partners is that they can't get quite enough of what they need. Whatever it is, they just can't get enough. Is it possible to be compersive for someone when you might be feeling that they're getting something you experience as a lack? The location of our group will rotate between VA and MD. This week, we'll be in VA, at the home of a new hostess, in Falls Church. FOOD: bring food that is spring-y. I want to see a salad! Things that are juicy, crisp, and crunchy. Please consider bringing a vegetarian or vegan option; we do currently have active members who need these options. Cut-up fresh fruit is always great! If you don't feel like schlepping, we also always appreciate a donation. Please note: we share the address on the morning of the meeting, via the messaging/email system here. If you don’t have the details by Friday noon, you will need to message us directly to get them.
Discovering the Sacred Art of Buddhism
Discovering the Sacred Art of Buddhism
Buddhist art is rich with beauty, symbolism, and deep meaning. From the sacred symbolism of the Eight Auspicious Symbols to the vivid imagery of the Wheel of Life and the peaceful presence of Buddha images, these traditional works of art offer more than aesthetic inspiration—they reveal a practical path to greater clarity, peace, and compassion that we can internalize and practice in our daily life. In this series, we’ll explore the symbolic meaning behind Kadampa Buddhist sacred art and discover how we can use this symbolism to illuminate our modern lives. Each session offers accessible explanations, guided meditation, and time for question and answer. **April 2nd:** Understanding Sacred Art **April 9th:** Meditating on the The Eight Auspicious Symbols I **April 16th:** Meditating on the The Eight Auspicious Symbols II **April 23rd:** The Wheel of Life: A Map of the Mind I **April 30th:** The Wheel of Life: A Map of the Mind II **REGISTRATION** Standard: $12 \| Financial Hardship: $6 \| Free for [Members](https://meditation-dc.org/membership/) [Pre-Register Here](https://meditation-dc.org/thursday-evenings/) Each class is available by drop in. Ritual Class: Torma Making Workshop
Ritual Class: Torma Making Workshop
Tormas are traditional ritual food offerings, usually made from marzipan, that are offered to the Buddhas in a variety of ritual practices, including empowerments, retreats, and chanted prayers. By making these offerings, we create powerful causes for spiritual attainments, motivated by compassion and the wish to benefit all living beings. In this hands-on workshop, **Jana Stanley** from KMC Florida, who is skilled in making tormas, will guide us step by step in learning this beautiful and meaningful art. The workshop will be informal, practical, and enjoyable, and is suitable for everyone — whether you are experienced or completely new to torma making. Participants will learn about the different types of tormas and how to make them correctly and confidently according to the New Kadampa Tradition lineage. Everyone is welcome! For anyone interested in helping more with torma making, additional sessions will be held on Sun., April 12 from 3 to 5pm and Tues., April 14 from 6:45 to 8:15pm. **Cost**: $35 Online Plus/General/Friend/Supporter: $17.50 Benefactor/Benefactor Plus: Free

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games! The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime! Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
