SPONSORS

This meetup is made possible thanks to our sponsors: eToro (https://www.etoro.com/), the Centre for Cryptocurrency Research and Engineering at Imperial College (http://www.imperial.ac.uk/cryptocurrency), CryptoCompare.com (https://www.cryptocompare.com/), The Blockchain Connector (https://www.theblockchainconnector.com/) and Slock.it (https://slock.it/)

SPEAKER LINE UP

Very special meetup with two stars developers in their respective field. Because of the incredible quality of the speakers, we extended each presentation to 45 minutes (including Q&A). As usual, no self-promotion allowed, technology focused talks all in the space of just 2 hours. The meetup will be filmed (but not livestreamed) and all videos will be released on Stephan Tual's Youtube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/ursium) roughly 3 weeks after the event.

(NOTE WE ARE STILL WORKING ON THE LINE UP PICTURES AND DESCRIPTIONS BUT THE SPEAKERS ARE CONFIRMED)

Viktor Tron - SWARM

https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/2/2/1/600_463729697.jpeg

While the Turing-complete blockchain may be 'the final missing piece' of the puzzle to bring the cypherpunk vision of decentralization to its completion, problems with their scalability are still a major bottleneck preventing mass adoption to real-world problems. These issues include high transaction costs for micropayments, lack of a data and storage layer as well as speed and volume limitations.

Inspired by state channels, SWARM introduces a secure and scalable off-chain framework to support generic incentive systems playfully called 'swap, swear and swindle' games. The system relies on three pillars: communication, registration, and enforcement.(1) Peers engage in a local exchange (p2p communication) of data, promises, payments, messages, requests, deliveries etc. (swap) Peers will relay data between remote non-connected nodes to extend the scope of the network.(2) Participants pay a security deposit to a smart contract to back their promise of delivery and quality guarantees (swear) (3) Rules of service provision are enforced by a courtroom making nodes accountable in case of non-compliance (swindle).

SWARM shows how the paradigm can be implemented in a modular way using very simple building blocks and yet serve as robust base layer infrastructure driving complex decentralized service economies.

Fabian Vogelsteller - ERC: Identity

Fabian is a strong advocate of open-source software and has built and contributed to a lot of open-source libraries and projects and wrote a book on Meteor.js, an open source JavaScript Framework.

His interest in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin led him to be part of one of the most ambitious blockchain projects to date, the Ethereum project. For almost three years now he works as the lead Dapp developer for the Ethereum project, building the low-level JavaScript API, DApps and Ethereum’s Wallet and the Mist browser.
