Have you noticed that the majority of items in your household are likely to have been manufactured in China? Importing goods from China to distribute and sell in North America has always been a big business and now, with the advent of e-commerce sites like Amazon and Shopify, there are many more channels available to distribute goods beyond the traditional offline retail channels.
VANCOUVER FACT: I’ve found that there is a healthy interest here with entrepreneurs wanting to import goods from China to sell in Canada and the US. Especially from those getting into selling on Amazon. Amazon itself is now worth over one trillion dollars and is the default ecommerce site in North America.
Why do people get involved in sourcing and importing? Well, consider this scenario: suppose you work 80 hours/week and are paid $100/hour, in one year you’d make about $400,000. Many successful exporters are making millions of dollars of sales per year. The opportunities to scale are very good.

Our next meeting is Monday, January 14th at Sunflower Bubble Tea.
This meeting will be part introduction and getting-to-know you and your interest in global business and part seeing if we can form collaboration teams to import and sell online.
I got back from China at the end of last year and visited no less than 12 trade shows, including the Canton Fair and brought back two suitcases full of product and supplier information and have setup a sourcing team in China, which will be our starting point.
Thus, continuing from our previous meetings last year, we are moving to Step Two:
i) Seeing who is interested in doing some trial sourcing from China for some goods.
ii) Getting into the Amazon game (beginners and advanced sellers are welcome)
iii) Finding other channels to distribute our products.
The idea is to form some collaborative teams/groups and see how far we can get together. We’ll discuss what it means to be in a team at the meeting.
