WAIHI BEACH COASTAL WALKWAY

Join us on this beautiful coastal walk which starts from the north end of Waihi Beach known as Orokawa Reserve. The first easy part of the walk takes us to Orokawa Bay through lush dense bush. Enjoy the sounds of bird life as we pass beneath towering Pohutukawa, Kauri, Puriri trees and NZ's only native palm the Nikau. We then continue onto Humunga Bay notable for it's dense Pohutukawa forests, beauty and seclusion. Stunning coastal & Pacific Ocean views along this walk make it worth the drive. If time allows we will have refreshments at the beach afterwards maybe at the surf club. I have posted some photos below to inspire you to come along.

***Check the night before in the comments section for any updates.
***Please don't drop out after 4 p.m. the day before or not turn up this prevents others from attending. If you do you will be marked as 'no show', 3 'no shows' and you will be stood down for 6 months.
***Sections of this track are not safe after or during heavy rainfall. If this happens again we will reschedule for next summer.
***Looking for minimum of 20, maximum of 35 hikers.

WHEN: Saturday 20 April 10.15 a.m. start.

WHERE: Approx 8 Esplanade Waihi (North end of carpark by the Surf Club) by my white van.

GRADE: 2.5/5 for regulars.

DISTANCE: Approx. 12km.

PACE: My easy/medium pace but stopping for photo's and scenic spots.
If you are either slow/unfit or want to go fast this is not the place for you! There are other groups to cater for your needs.

TIME: Approx 4.5 hours.

COST: $2 gold coin to help offset the costs of putting on these hikes for you. Thanks!

WEATHER: Unknown at this stage...keep your fingers crossed for nice weather.

BRING: Day pack with food & water. Weather is now changeable so suitable extra clothing. Pole/s are useful. Footwear...boots are best otherwise good trainers with good grip on the soles.

TRANSPORT: Put your name & mobile in the comments section if you need a lift. Passengers need to give the driver a total of $30 or so per car. Please bring a plastic bag for dirty items to keep your drivers car clean.

HEALTH & SAFETY: Outdoor activities come with some hazards & risks. By RSVP'ing you accept full responsibility for your own safety. If you have cold or flu symptoms sit this one out.

TO HAVE A STRESS FREE START TO THE DAY GIVEN THE DISTANCE WE ARE DRIVING: Fill your vehicle with fuel the day before, sort everything out the night before and if you are a passenger be waiting before the time yr driver is to pick you up. Allow plenty of time over what google suggests.
