Great weather for tomorrows hike -fine- no rain- no big hills- easy going pace - are you free ? Sti

Hello all,

Hope you are keeping warm and looking forward to a good weekend ahead.

If you're still free for tomorrow, then join us on our hike between the two dams.

True, its a longer walk of 6 hours , but there are no big hills to climb, and its a combination of road walking, and tracks, so not a lot  huffing and puffing required.

In fact the morning is mainly all down hill, albeit some mud on the tracks, but it is a lovely place to be.

Our .Afternoon is also moderately easy, as  it's onto Christies track, again no hills to climb, mainly small ridges , and really heartland views of the Waitakere's and we visit another Reservoir, with exceptional views and then its a easy, walk along a service road to the end of our hike.

This is also a farewell hike for one of members, Rianne, who is leaving NZ soon. She has done more than 16 meet ups with this group, and many others hikes with other meet ups in the short time she has been here. So she will be missed, and this will be her last outing with us.

Anyway, after this hike I'm leading tomorrow..., there are also going to be some changes to how I lead further trips.

I'm going to be stepping back from doing  longer hikes like this one, as I feel my way of hiking isn't what a good core group of members want anymore, and that's people always want to go fast, to get to where they want to go and that's not my main reason why I come out..., as I'm getting older and my knees aren't as young anymore .

So I've decided to let the Leadership Team change, and others like Mike and Frank will lead future 5 hour plus hikes or those that want faster paced hikes like some Mike has led recently.

I've found after doing over 100 meet ups since 2010,  I personally enjoy the events that are easier and slower...And I'm going to focus on doing these, so the newer members of this group, and those members that want to build up their fitness can be encouraged to be more active on this meet up and go through the bush at a slower pace.

I want to do some other things here on Meet Up, and get back to what I love about being outdoors most weekends and inspire as many kiwis as possible to get active no matter what your age or level of fitness.

In doing this , I want to also step down as being the main organiser , and let Mike steer the helm from now on...and only assist on here sometimes.

I'd also like to make some trips open to active fit children attending coming with there mums or dads, or both.. , and do some teaching on outdoor skills like map and compass, and other bushcraft skills I've learnt over the 30 plus years I've been tramping here in Auckland.

And do some  overnight camping events with some smaller groups , as the weather changes over the next few months...But more about that later.

So hopefully , these changes bring about more variety on this great meet up site you as members are a part of....And in doing so, we can all enjoy NZ's greatest resource, being outdoors !

Anyway, enough from me...Don't just sit there reading about hiking, get out there and do it, too. You won't be sorry.

And thanks to the weather gods ,  tomorrow is expected to have fine weather predicted albeit a bit cold outside, so wrap up warm.

In the meantime , stay on top of your health this winter and keep active.

Happy Hiking !

Stephen F.
