Building a standing figure in clay using an internal armature
During this 8 week sculpting session we will focus our sculpting on the standing figure. Beginning and continuing sculptors are invited to sculpt from a live model independently, or with instructional help. The pose will be set up allow for the sculpting of a standing pose. For those interested, we will start with a hands-on-demonstration in building an internal armature, which will not require the traditional cutting out of armature, hollowing and reassembling of parts. This armature type is well suited for figures up to 20 inches in height. In addition, instructional help will be offered in anatomy and in sculpting styles and approaches. If possible please bring the following to the first day of instruction: - Newspaper - Rags (to moisten and cover work at end of sculpting sessions) - Wooden dowels (It need to be made out of oak wood) - Minimum ¾ inch thick square base board (side length 10 to 14 inches) - Masking tape (3/4 to 1 inch wide) - Drywall fiber tape (large mesh) Recommended Material list: - Sculpting tools (various tools will be made available in class) - Bamboo or metal shish kabob sticks For details on materials to bring go to my website at: I will send out a reminder to registered participants about materials and it will include the option to purchase them from me.
