Sculpting The Figure In Clay with Tebby George (5 week class)

What we'll do:
5 Friday mornings from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM Figure Sculpting with Tebby George from live model.

Nov. 10 through Dec. 15, 2023 (No class Nov. 24, 2023)

Beginning and continuing sculptors of all ages are invited to sculpt from a live model who will hold the same pose for five 4-hour sessions. There will be instruction in clay building and in human anatomy, with emphasis on gesture. Participants will be guided in preparation of pieces for firing, and provided with information on kiln firing services. The use of mason stains, underglazes, and terra sigillata will be demonstrated. These finishes will be available in class and students are encouraged to experiment with them. In this session, our model will be in a pose that works for both full figure or portrait. A separate space is provided for independent projects; those who wish to work without using the model are welcome.

What to bring:
Required Material List:
• Clay (can be purchased from instructor - regular clay $15, paper clay $18)
• Newspaper
• Rags (to moisten and cover work at end of sculpting sessions)
• Box and packing materials to transport finished piece (last day of instruction)
• proof of vaccination and mask

Recommended Material list:
• Sculpting tools (various tools will be made available in class)
• Clothing that can get clay on them or Apron
• Spritzer bottle for spraying pieces

Materials Included in class:
• Sculpting base
• Spritzer bottle for spraying pieces
• Plastic bags to cover pieces (to keep them moist)
