The Astor Room presents two evenings of world renowned short films on October 19th and 20th.
The 36th Asbury Short Film Concerts land at Kaufman Astoria Movie Studios!
Asbury Shorts, New York's longest running short film exhibition reels into Kaufman Astoria Studios in Astoria, Queens for the first time on Thursday, October 19th and Friday October 20th presenting their nationally recognized 36th Short Film Concert. The same lineup of globally honored shorts will run both nights, blasting on to the screen at 7:30pm. The screenings are co presented by The Astor Room and recommended for ages 16 and way above. An Asbury short film “concert” combines world renowned shorts from the past with current festival award winners providing a rare opportunity for audiences to see elite, international films on a real cinema screen rather than YouTube, smart phones or computers. Academy Award nominated director Jason Reitman (“JUNO,” “Up in the Air,” “Thank You for Smoking” and “Young Adult”) calls Asbury Shorts: “The best short film show I’ve ever seen.” Highlights of the October shows include:
“The Quality of Mercy," a multi international film festival award winner from New York based director Stephen Marro. Tony & Emmy Award winning actress Mary Louise Parker (Showtime’s “Weeds”) stars as a struggling New York thespian who accidentally shares a café table with the chief N.Y. Times theater critic. “Dad in Mum,” from director Fabrice Baracq of France has two incredibly cute young sisters wake in the middle of the night to hear strange sounds coming from their parent’s bedroom…they must investigate! There will be 10 shorts in all in the two hour presentation. The Astor Room is located at 35-11 35th Avenue in Astoria, Queens.
