Friday Morning Mindfulness: Live Meditation w/Rachel on Zoom

Friday Morning Mindfulness *8-8:45am Live Meditation

We begin with a short sit to connect and ground, followed by a Dharma Talk and then settling into a 30 minute lightly guided seated meditation. We will have time to reflect and share our experiences with each other at the end.

Meet Rachel, Free Yoga SF’s lead instructor:

Hi Yogis!

I’m Rachel.

I am a holistic therapist and yoga instructor in the Bay Area, specializing in practices that integrate the whole person -- mind, body, and spirit -- to promote healing and wellness. Coming from a lifelong background in dance and a family of artists and musicians, I have always found movement and creative expression to be a vital part of emotional work and healing. In my studies and work in the mental health field for over 10 years, I have witnessed first hand how yoga and other practices that incorporate the whole being provide much more than just temporary symptom relief. These practices foster a deep a true understanding of your process to stimulate healing, helping you to move forward with strength, resiliency, and trust in yourselves to make healthy life choices, becoming more skillfully adept in your thoughts and reactions to life's challenges.

In classes and private sessions with me I guide you in mindfulness practices, meditations, and movement flows that tap into multiple facets of what it means to be human. My group classes are mixed level and meet each student where they are at while still challenging them to reach new heights of self-realization, acceptance, strength and flexibility, both on and off of the mat. I will push you to challenge yourself while also guiding you to listen to your body and intuition. I teach from a place of authenticity, passion and playfulness.

Conservatory of Flowers

~The class~

All levels Yoga flow. Beginners welcome. (Please bring your own mat or a towel). We meet at 10:45am by the Garfield Monument to the right and in-front of the Conservatory and then walk over to our beautiful outdoor practice area.

Class Details:
Creative and playful breath-based movement, drawing on years of experience with Hatha, Tantra, Vinyasa and Restorative modalities. Whether you’ve been practicing for years or it’s your first time, this class is designed to leave you feeling calm yet energized and to bring strength and flexibility to body, mind and emotions.

I want to share these thoughts with you:

There is a pure awareness, radiant and joyful, that dances beneath our physicality, our mind, our emotions. Yoga isn’t about “fixing something” in ourselves, it’s a set of techniques that help us to connect to that thing inside each of us that is already pure and perfect…a joy that isn’t dependent on anything external for its existence. This work has been the most exciting adventure of my life, and I invite you to join me on this journey of breath, movement and meditation, cultivating strength and flexibility in our body, mind and emotions.

In thousands of hours of teaching—group classes, workshops, teacher trainings, private yoga therapy, sound healing, and more—I have seen, over and over, how powerfully yoga changes people’s lives. This work is purely student oriented. My job is to see you, and guide you, and share these practices the same way they were shared with me, the same way they’ve been shared for generation after generation.

I became a grandfather in the middle of the pandemic (my daughter had twin baby girls!) and I think about the world of the future more now because of it. How we create it. We must discover our best self, and allow that light to shine its power into other’s lives. One candle lighting another, and another, and another. This is yoga. This work we do on the mat is not just for ourselves, but in the service of leaving a better world behind us. That is why I do this work.

ALL LEVELS/AGES/BODIES--moving meditation for somatic healing. This class is designed to slow down, de stress, move and breathe in a way that feels supportive and helps regulate our nervous systems. Options and space to customize & be with the self.

First 10-15 minutes will be for a mindful art activity/ creative expression. If you plan to participate, please have supplies ready.
