FOLAR is hosting their 2024 Outstanding Community Service Awards, Ribbon Cutting, and Fundraising Event on May 31 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and we would be delighted if you could join us!
This evening awards celebration will honor the impact of individuals and organizations in our community through their exemplary service and philanthropy in support of conserving and protecting the Appomattox River for all to enjoy. This event will be hosted in FOLAR’s new office and garden space at 235 N Market St in Petersburg, so we will kick off the event with a ribbon cutting!
This event is free to attend, although registration is required. There will be hors d’oeuvres served alongside a cash bar, a raffle, silent auction, merchandise, and more. We hope to see you there!

- CLEAN THE BAY DAY! Trash Pickup and Invasive Plant Removal at Pocahontas Island149 Rolfe St, Petersburg, VA

On June 1st, FOLAR will be hosting a Clean The Bay Day event at Rotary Park at Pocahontas Island, Petersburg Virginia.

Parking is available at the entrance to Rotary Park: 149 Rolfe St, Petersburg, VA 23803 - there is also street parking available.
We will be doing Trash Pickup-- tools and gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. As always, FOLAR will do a brief educational session about invasive plants at the beginning of the session, and anyone can join us in helping to remove the target invasive plant of the day-- no experience necessary, we will provide training and tools.
Participants should wear closed-toed shoes and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Sunscreen recommended! We will be bringing refreshments and water refills to share.
No age requirement. Any age can enjoy making a difference in natural spaces. We require adult supervision to be present for anyone under 18.

Friends of Lower Appomattox River is a nonprofit group based in Petersburg, VA. We are working to build a 25-mile-long trail along the Appomattox River, connecting Hopewell, Chesterfield County, Prince George County, Colonial Heights, Petersburg, and Dinwiddie. Join us for volunteer opportunities along our beautiful public trail.
