L.A. Foodies is the largest foodie meetup group in SoCal!
Meet people interested in dining out, cooking, baking and drinking in LA! Enjoy & share culinary talents with our 8,200+ fellow foodies, gourmets, wine lovers, chefs and home cooks. We are going to the original, flagship Simpang Asia after 4 successful dinners at their newer Venice location. This National Blvd location has a larger menu including several fish dishes.

The menu is exciting. Vegetarian friendly. 3 or 4 vegan dishes.

Family style. We will share the food. Please no dietary restrictions
like vegetarian, keto, gluten free, etc.

The event organizer will order the family style food with the input of everyone so we can have a balanced, authentic Indonesian dinner.

Estimated cost $40

To be on the safe side, please bring at last $60 in cash.

Extra for beverages. It is better to have too much than too little. It will probably be less.

Small bills to make settling the bill easiest. NOT all 20s please. Only one $20/higher bill, the rest in small bills.

NO credit cards, NO separate checks. No takeout on your own when we order. You may order your takeout after so there will be no confusion.

If you must cancel, at least 48 hours notice is requested so foodies on the wait list can make arrangements.

This is a chill Foodies event. The San Pedro Fish Market is outdoors, has a lot of open seating, is not too busy is the early afternoon. and you can order with an app at the table if you want. So no need to Vemno me a deposit or anything like that, just come and find our table and have a big seafood lunch. Or don't. Whatev.

This isn't haute. Bring an appetite, and don't wear anything too nice: there's a real risk of getting your shirt stained.

The San Pedro Waterfront decided to to a major remodeling a year or two ago, and a lot of the shops and eateries there have shut down or suspended, but the San Pedro Fish Market found a new location nearby and is still kicking. Any place that survives pandemic and remodeling is a place I like to support.

Note: This is a joint event. I have invited people from a couple other groups as well.

Parking

There's inexpensive parking in the area.

It's a nice seafront so I'd actually suggest to parking at the USS Iowa and ($2/hr, first hour free) and strolling down to the Fish Market, about a quarter mile. (The stroll back will also help digestion after you've crammed all that fish.)

The Los Angeles Philharmonic performs an all-American program depicting scenes from the women’s suffrage movement, gentle lullabies, and vibrant city streets. New York City comes to life in both the dances from Leonard Bernstein’s beloved musical On the Town and Duke Ellington’s orchestral suite Harlem.
Valerie Coleman’s Fanfare for Uncommon Times reflects our unsettled moment, “at once reflective and restless, uplifting and ominous” (The New York Times), while William Grant Still’s Mother and Child was inspired by Harlem Renaissance artist Sargent Johnson’s tender painting. At the center of the program is a newly arranged song cycle from Shaina Taub’s Broadway hit Suffs, centered around the movement for women's voting rights.

$5 entrance ticket payable to Daniel Smith via Zelle. We will meet at 6:30pm to 7pm in front of the Bowl Box Office. You will receive your ticket then. Daniel will be wearing a black cowboy hat.

Foodie potluck picnic dinner at 7pm with the concert from 8pm til

# The Classical World Cup

Dribble, pass, shoot, and score! The LA Phil celebrates the World Cup with a soccer-themed program of works from across the Americas.

Tito Muñoz makes a performance feel “like the center of a social triangle of concerts, parties, and going to church” (I Care If You Listen). Now, he throws more fun into the mix, turning the Hollywood Bowl into a sports arena during this World Cup-themed classical program.
Muñoz debuts with the LA Phil, conducting an exhilarating selection of pieces from the Americas—including Copland and Ginastera’s high-spirited cowboy suites, Revueltas’ rip-roaring and aggressive “Chant for Killing a Snake,” and a world premiere by Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated composer Adam Schoenberg. Paired with original footage of elite training and match play from director Josh Kahn, The Art of the Goal blends the rhythm of sport with the expressive depth of orchestral music.
Before intermission, Randall Goosby brings an athletic approach to Barber’s Violin Concerto, revealing its rich colors, textures, and characters. “I’m a sucker for anything lyrical and beautiful. It’s such descriptive and expressive music. Each movement [has] stories that are wrapped up in it. It’s always fun to play,” Goosby says.
“With a buttered cream technique that belies the perfect fingering and light but firm bowing, [Goosby] stands out from all of his fellow violinists” (Stage and Cinema). Catch his first performance at the Bowl since 2022!
