What we’re about
The Freethinkers Forum of Tallahassee Meetup offers a friendly and educational venue for all to learn and discuss thought-provoking presentations. Those who believe that opinions, religious and otherwise, should be formed based on logic and reason will feel right at home. If you are unfamiliar with freethought or just curious, join in and you'll have an opportunity to learn what freethinkers, humanists, agnostics, atheists, skeptics, and critical thinkers are all about.
Our focus is to provide an environment in which to learn about and discuss a wide variety of subjects including science, social science, medicine, philosophy, religion, history, literature, and current events, to name a few. Meetings begin with a presentation that is not necessarily limited to a secular topic, followed by lively and informative conversation. We meet every Wednesday via Zoom from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. (prior to COVID, we met at UUCT). We start at 7:00 sharp.

https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88384219320?pwd=dlR1WHpBM1JJT2ZXdmE5dSthRWp1UT09
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: In the Trump-era, and within the public health narrative shaped by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a debunked but persistent myth has taken hold: that infant vaccinations cause autism. Despite overwhelming scientific evidence disproving this claim, the narrative remains central to anti-vaccine rhetoric.
Professor Richard Grinker, a cultural anthropologist and director of The George Washington University Institute for Ethnographic Research, joins Chris Hayes to examine how autism has become a political obsession, recent inflection points, what the research says about autism being under diagnosed or over diagnosed, and more.
MEET CHRIS'S GUEST: Professor Roy Richard Grinker is an American cultural anthropologist who is a Professor of Anthropology, International Affairs, and Human Sciences at The George Washington University (GWU). He also serves as the Director of GWU's Institute for Ethnographic Research and is the editor-in-chief of the journal, "Anthropological Quarterly." His expertise covers a wide range of subjects, including: Psychological and medical anthropology, particularly autism and mental illness stigma.

•OnlineAn Enigma: The Biology of the Bizarre Giant Spinosaurus , with David Hone
OnlineLINK TO ZOOM MEETING:
https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88384219320?pwd=dlR1WHpBM1JJT2ZXdmE5dSthRWp1UT09
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The giant sail-backed carnivorous Spinosaurus is one of the most famous of all dinosaurs. It’s a staple of documentaries, books, movies, and video games, but a great deal of scientific mystery surrounds them. Their fossil remains are highly fragmentary, their evolutionary relationships elusive, and interpretations of their ecology and behavior are hotly contested. So what do we actually know about this "crocodile-headed" animal and its relatives, the Spinosaurs?
MEET THE SPEAKER: Paleontologist David Hone is currently a Reader (Professor) of Zoology at Queen Mary University of London. He is a world-renowned expert on pterosaurs (flying reptiles) and theropod dinosaurs (like Tyrannosaurus rex).
Much of his work involves "archosaur" biology, looking at social behavior, diet, and how these animals evolved over millions of years. Hone analyzes comparative anatomy and paleopathology to understand how these ancient creatures lived and died.
Beyond his books and numerous other publications, David is a prolific science educator. He is highly respected for his ability to bridge the gap between rigorous academic research and engaging storytelling for the public.
