We're going to dive deep into the world of EMDR therapy, exploring its origins, controversies, and the big question: How does eye movement help treat trauma? Join us as we unravel both the mysteries of this unique therapeutic approach and the life of its founder, Francine Shapiro, whose zeal and questionable business practices created the EMDR empire we know today. We'll also discuss current research findings on its efficacy and the controversies surrounding EMDR as an institution, including its dubious ties to pseudoscience.
MEET THE PRODUCERS: The producers of this video, and creators of the "Neurotransmissions" channel, are Alison Caldwell (Alie) and Micah Caldwell. Alie, a neuroscientist, graduated from MIT in Brain and Cognitive Sciences and obtained her Ph.D. at UCSD in Neuroscience. Micah, a therapist, is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California. Together, they founded Neuro Transmissions in 2015 with a mission to make neuroscience accessible to all interested viewers.

https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88384219320?pwd=dlR1WHpBM1JJT2ZXdmE5dSthRWp1UT09PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This presentation will provide an overview of anomalistic psychology {"anomalistic" derives from anomaly}, focussing particularly on the work of the Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit. If the wider scientific community is right to be skeptical regarding paranormal claims, why do so many people believe in the paranormal, including a sizeable minority that claim to have had direct personal experience of paranormal phenomena? Anomalistic psychology attempts to address this issue by proposing alternative non-paranormal explanations for ostensibly paranormal experiences. Factors such as the unreliability of memory, hallucinatory experiences, and a range of cognitive biases are discussed.
MEET THE SPEAKER: Chris French is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is also the Head of the Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit. His expertise lies in anomalistic psychology, where he investigates non-paranormal explanations for ostensibly paranormal experiences. French is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, as well as a Patron of the British Humanist Association. Chris has authored over 150 articles and chapters on various topics, but his research focuses primarily on the psychology of paranormal beliefs and anomalous experiences.
