On May 10th, it will be exactly 4 years to the day that the journey of Le Joli Mai 2020 began, and it wasn’t going to stop there…
No-one could have imagined the obstacles we would have to face to reach the end of this adventure, but here we are: the film is finished and subtitled in English!
The whole crew is deeply grateful for the contributions of our kisskissbankers, some of them from the Lost in Frenchlation family, and we decided to plan this screening as part of the Lost in Frenchlation programme for those of you who might be interested in this project started by Manon, Lost in Frenchlation founder, Pranav, inspired by the first French film he saw in the cinema, Le Joli Mai, and Pauline and Cédric who joined them to direct it.« Le Joli Mai shot by Chris Marker and Pierre Lhomme in the streets of Paris was released in May 1963. Sixty years ago. It immortalized on film a fragment of time. It is the genesis of this film.
The first deconfinement also took place in May 2020… the shock of months of lockdown, an experience without precedent, inspired us to film life coming back to a world that would never be the same again – to feel the pulse of the city, and meet its population still stunned by the pandemic.
Because of the emergency and the impossibility to prepare the filming in a traditional production framework, we started shooting in a very improvised way, without anyone’s help or agreement. As soon as the lockdown ended, we immediately set out with the material we had at hand… in search of life starting again. » – SynopsisWatch the trailer with English subtitles: https://vimeo.com/872990996

“Worn out by 25 years together, the couple formed by Xavier and Sophie seem to have run out of steam. And the least we can say is that Sophie’s idea of inviting Adèle and Alban, their upstairs neigh- bours, doesn’t thrill Xavier! He blames them for their hallucinating lack of discretion during their frequent and wild nocturnal romps. In contact with their neigh- bours, Xavier and Sophie come face-to-face with their reality, only to be pushed into a corner by a somewhat… indecent proposal.” – Synopsis
“Led by a quartet of impeccable actors and actresses, the delightful Et plus si affinités took almost all the prizes at the 27th Alpe d’Huez Film Festival… sharp dialogue, unexpected punchlines, jokes that are as direct as they are funny…” – Cineman.
