Blake Dinius and myself are offering a second night on Thursday for those who can't attend on Wednesday.
Come enjoy the start of summer with an evening nature hike in Myles Standish State Forest. The hike will be through the center of the park in Wildlife Management areas, passing by some ponds, vernal pools, numerous fields and pine barren habitats. Signs of nature will be observed along the way as the evening emerges and this will be a quiet walk at times. Blake Dinius, an Entomologist for Plymouth County will be co-host.
This hike will be a repeat of the Solstice hikes offered the last few years. On those hikes we were serenaded by some Whip-poor-wills and Hermit Thrushes, loud choruses of frogs and had wonderful finishes with a magical firefly light shows. Dogs are welcome if they are leashed or kept under control.
I expect the hike to be 2.5 hours and approximately 4.5 miles and the pace will be relaxed as we will be stopping to observe sign of nature. We will be finishing after sunset(8:21), so bring a headlamp or flashlight if you are uncomfortable walking in semi darkness, but there may be some moonlight. We will finish in dark at the last field with fireflies lighting the way.
