About us
Welcome! Friends of Dorothy hosts relaxed get-togethers for queer people and allies. Our very first gathering was in September 2025.
Most months, we host two events: a casual hangout, walk, or activity earlier in the month, and a game night at Rainbow Community Center in Concord on every fourth Wednesday at 6 pm.
Our goal is to give you a safe and welcoming space to meet new people. To stay up to date on all get-togethers, you can join our WhatsApp community here.
We’re looking forward to meeting you soon! 👠💛
About our name: “Friend of Dorothy” was a code phrase used by queer people to identify one another starting in the 1950s. There are multiple theories of origin, but one of the most popular is that it was a reference to Judy Garland’s portrayal of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (1939). Judy Garland herself was an early gay icon.
Note: Accessibility will vary, and we include accessibility details in the description of each individual scheduled gathering.
