What we’re about
Fusebox is an Austin based non-profit art organization. For the past 11 years their primary program has been the Fusebox Festival, a city-wide hybrid art festival featuring hundreds local, national, and international artists in all disciplines.
Fusebox + Technology + thinkEAST
thinkEAST is a 24 acre property located on a former gasoline storage tank farm in east Austin. After two decades of grassroots pressure, the oil companies relocated and the site was remediated. The new owners of thinkEAST have asked Fusebox to help lead a planning and visioning process for the future of this site that places the immediate neighborhood and the artistic/creative community at the center. We see this as a vital opportunity to press pause on the giant wave of development that’s happening in our city in an attempt to imagine a more innovative, creative, responsible process for developing a piece of land. Within this process, we’re especially interested in exploring the role that technology can play in the future of the thinkEAST property. How is technology integrated into the fabric of this community? What are possible roles that technology can play in the design, economic, and educational opportunities of thinkEAST?
Fusebox + Technology + thinkEAST + You
In early 2015 Fusebox will convene a think tank to explore these exciting intersections of art, community design, and technology. We have an intentionally broad understanding of technology: hardware, software, high-tech and ubiquitous tech. We are interested in including technologists, design thinkers, makers, and artists of all stripes in this investigation.
We anticipate a couple of meetings before the 2015 Fusebox Festival in April where we will prototype some of the ideas that have come up in our work with artists and the thinkEAST community.
