What we’re about
The GLBTQ+ Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA) Men's Chorus has resumed in person rehearsals beginning August 2, 2021. Please note that we are asking all members who join us in person for proof of COVID-19 vaccination, and we are requiring masks for indoor rehearsals.
The GAPA Men’s Chorus showcases the vocal music talents of gay, bisexual, and transgender Asian and Pacific Islander (API) men. We create a safe space for queer API men of all ages to find fellowship and share our worldviews by providing a supportive community through song.
Join us for friendships and fellowship through song! We meet up every week to make friends and to share songs, both in English and in Asian languages. Our rehearsals alternate between San Francisco and Oakland. Aside from friendship, our purpose is to develop and perform choral programs that reflect the cultural diversity of our Asian-American heritage. We put on our own concerts, participate in national and international choral festivals and perform at community events. We are a part of the GLBTQ+ Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA), which has the mission of increasing the API LGBT visibility and advocating for API and LGBT rights.
In 2019 we participated in the Hand-in-Hand Asia festival in Tokyo. Hand in Hand is a gathering of LGBT chorus from around the Asia-Pacific that happens every 2 years.
If you decide to join us at a rehearsal, let us know with a message here or email us at chorus@gapa.org.
No auditions necessary and no previous choral experience required. We ask that you bring your natural aesthetic value, your ability to sing on pitch and willingness to learn the music and songs.
