This Sunday we are going to do the hike from Les Diablerets to Villars-sur-Ollon (part 6 of Tour des Alpes Vaudoises). This is a 18 km T2 trail with an elevation gain of 1100m.
The weather is expected to be partly sunny, with cool morning temperatures around 13 °C and warming to 20–22 °C by midday. Please bring sun protection, enough water, and a light jacket for the start and the summit.
🏔️ HIKE DETAILS
It starts in Les Diablerets and follows a scenic trail to the Col de la Croix, passing a dramatic cliff and waterfall once feared as a cursed site in medieval times. Near the pass, hikers discover the striking gypsum pyramids, unique formations sculpted by centuries of erosion. The route continues to the Col de l’Encrène (1936 m) with panoramic views of the Diablerets massif, then descends to the beautiful Lac des Chavonnes, an ideal spot for a pause by the lakeside restaurant. The final section crosses the Col de Bretaye before a long descent through forests, alpine chalets, and along the cog railway, ending in Villars-sur-Ollon with sweeping views of the Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc.
- Starting time: 10:20
- Duration: 7 hours (including breaks and lunch)
- Length: 18 km
- Elevation gain: 1100 m ascent / 1000 m descent

⚠️ TECHNICAL / PHYSICAL DIFFICULTY
This hike is not technical, but the ascent is sustained and requires good fitness. You should be comfortable with ~1,000 m elevation gain. We will walk at a steady pace with a few stops, but not many.
🥾 TRACTION
Please wear proper hiking boots with good grip, and bring trekking poles if you usually use them.
