Food insecurity is always a prevalent concern for people living in Episcopal Community Services’ supportive housing sites, but during the COVID-19 crisis, the need for nutritious meals is exacerbated. Throughout our residential buildings, seniors and people with compromised immune systems constitute more than half of the residents, and to ensure their safety, they must stay inside. Providing meals for them at home is critical. Dependable volunteers are crucial to ensure our residents don’t have to decide between accessing meals outside of their homes and protecting themselves from chance of COVID-19 infection.

Volunteers will pick up meals from the SF Food Runners kitchen once a week and deliver them to three to four ECS supportive housing sites in SoMA or the Tenderloin. These drop-offs are either curbside or done in the lobbies of our buildings--there will be no contact with the residents.

Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, registration and a truck, van, or vehicle capable of shuttling 150 - 200 individually packaged meals. Please e-mail our host at ECS, Emily, with a picture of your driver's license and registration: ESanNicolas@ecs-sf.org.

Dollies or hand trucks are useful, but not required.
