"Dean's List" Cat Gap Loop with John Rock - Grogan Creek Falls (VS) 8.9 EG 1900

(VS) — Dean's List: Cat Gap Falls, with John Rock and Two Falls

Meet at University Square Shopping Center, in front of Mr. Salsa for an 8:30 departure.

The hike will begin approximately 10:00 at the Pisgah Fish Hatchery (Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education). We will travel the Cat Gap Loop Trail, with the additional inner loop to John Rock to enjoy the great view. Later, we’ll break off from Cat Gap to do an out and back on the Pickelseimer Field and Butter Gap Trails down to see Grogan Creek Falls. On getting back to Cat Gap Loop, we’ll check out Cedar Rock Falls and then return to the fish hatchery. If there has been recent rain, there will likely be a few muddy sections and there are a couple of minor creek crossings. The John Rock Loop and the following section of Cat Gap will present us with most of the elevation gain, so that section is pretty taxing and we won’t push it too hard. The rest of the trail is pretty easy and we’ll keep up a fairly good pace.
