The Despeauxrados (VS) - Pink Beds to MST to Green Knob (10.7 miles, 2350 EG)

This group meets Wed at University Square Shopping Center. The hikes are scheduled 1 to 4 weeks in advance and target hikes which are 10 miles long and climb 2000 ft. We hike at approx. 2.5 MPH, faster or slower depending on terrain.

Summer heat and thunderstorms are in the Wednesday forecast, so we will try to thread the needle to avoid worst of both. To stay cooler, we will hike in Pisgah NF. Hike starts at the large, paved Pink Beds parking lot, and we follow the Pink Beds Loop to Barnett Branch Trail. After viewing Barnett Branch Waterfall, we continue on Barnett Branch to the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. We will follow the MST up to the BR Parkway and Green Knob. Green Knob (elevation 5056 ft.) is the highest point on MST between the Pisgah Inn and Graveyard Fields. Although a tree-covered prominence, it should provide cooler temps for a lunch setting. After Lunch, we follow our established track back to the Pink Beds.
