Rural Walk: Ratby and Thornton

Another brand new route to savour, as we visit some more pretty awesome scenery just over the border in Leicestershire, made possible by the restoration of great swathes of The National Forest

Logistics:
Meet: 10:20 check-in, to start within 10 minutes, or earlier if those visible are ready.
Distance: Just over 9 miles, adjustable to suit the weather.
Start Point: Burrough's Wood car park, One mile along Burrough's Road, Ratby, South Leicestershire. W3W=evenings.commit.servicing. No postcode, see directions below.
Directions: Burroughs Road is entered just to the right of the Bull's Head pub on Main Street in Ratby, postcoded LE6 0LN. Continue along this lane for a mile (passing The Plough Inn, and crossing a ford) to a well signposted car park.
Terrain: Woodland offering shade, pools and pastureland, with gently rolling landscapes. Of note, we pass a moat, an equestrian centre and walk around a beautiful reservoir.

Refreshments: Picnic stop and a choice of midway pub stops in Thornton, and optionally at the end.

As with any outdoor activity, there is some inherent risk. Whilst we aim to avoid unnecessary risks, participants should take all reasonable precautions themselves. A suitable pace for the walk will be determined by the walk leader, which others must observe by keeping in visible distance, not forging ahead or lagging behind. Those attending are totally responsible for their own safety. You must be comfortable walking the specified distance in order to attend please.
