Meeting Point: Little India MRT Exit A
A leisure heritage walk with upslope walking & climbing on steps
As we make our way to Mount Emily Park on a lazy Sunday evening, get a taste of nostalgia at the Old Chang Kee eatery, located down the hill along Niven Road. You can buy your fav puffs here but, just a heads-up, we shall indulge in a dinner as well as dessert later, spread over 2 eateries😋
Mount Emily Park is a green recreational space with plenty of mature trees. Among these trees is a Yellow Flame heritage tree which is estimated to be more than 70 years old. 😉help me to locate this tree on this Mother's Day. Around Mount Emily Park, you can also spot some former mansions, a reminder that the wealthy stayed in this neighbourhood.
Next, we shall pass by a stately conserved building before walking down to Wilkie Rd & drifting towards Niven Road. A fairly quiet street found off a busy Selegie Road and at the foot of Mount Sophia and Mount Emily, it is one dominated by two beautiful rows of conservation two-storey pre-war shophouses, several of which are still with the once fashionable pintu pagar (swinging bar doors). The street is also one which is very much associated with the Sikhs – a Sikh temple is found at its southern end.
By now, you may feel a churning movement in your stomach😅 Dinner time! However, even as we head towards Parklane Shopping Mall to indulge in its several eateries, look out for a unique building showcasing its fabulous cars vertically.
We'll also point out Mount Sophia to you along the way.
On this Mother's Day, cast away our critical spirit, negative words & gossip. Instead, build lasting bonds over a succulent dinner washed down with your fav beverage. Do leave room for dessert shortly though.
A stone's throw away from Parklane Shopping Mall is the established Rochor Original Beancurd at Short Street. Relish a bowl of beancurd & 'you tiao' along a side alley or enjoy the company of friends on the second floor.
Finally, walk off some calories along McNally St, Prinsep St, Middle Rd & Bencoolen St. Surprise ourselves😯 with a number of hidden instagrammable historic gems on the last lap of the memorable walk.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, bring sufficient water and an umbrella for rain or shine purpose. 😃 It’s a rain or shine event. 🙏
