What will you be learning?
This class is designed for the novice who has never done any kind of sewing and for the occasional sewer who'd like to increase skill and confidence. The class is designed to strength the basics so that students can feel confident to progress to more complicated projects.
In these lessons we will learn machine identification and basics such as proper threading, stitch length and tension; Common terminology used in the fashion construction industry, and Common tool usage. All of this will be learned through the process of making an apron.
How will the class be structured?
Introduction to the class explaining outline and safety information for the class
• Machine terminology and tool identification
• Machine threading
• Sewing practice
• Fabric and pattern layout and cutting
• Sewing Your Apron
• 10 minute break
• More Sewing Pressing and Finishing Presentation of finished aprons and class review
How should students prepare?
Students should prepare by bringing the following basic sewing supplies to class:
• Seam Ripper
• Universal Needles Size 80/12
• Paper Scissors
• Fabric cutting scissors
• Flexible tape measure (Tailor's tape)
• Glass Head Pins
• 1 Yard of appropriate fabric (woven fabrics only. canvas and decorator fabrics work well for aprons. Don't spend a lot though.)
• Thread to match fabric (Guitterman or Mettler is recommended)
• Enthusiasm and a creative spirit. (^_^)
Optional
• Working Sewing Machine (Sewing machines only. No Sergers for this class)
• Sewing machine accessories and instruction manual

What will you get out of this lesson?
After you finish this class you will have enough understanding how to properly and effectively use a basic sewing machine. You will also be able to complete small projects with confidence and ease and be prepared to learn larger more complicated projects.
Beginner - Intermediate - or Advanced Level
This is a beginner level class. No prior sewing experience is needed.
Teacher Bio
Hello! My name is Temperance Bonner and I'm a fashion construction artist. I've studied fashion construction and design at American River and Sacramento City Colleges. I have a small fashion construction business where I do custom designs and alterations. I believe that everyone should have the basic knowledge of how to make clothing. As a fashion construction artist I feel such a great sense of accomplishment when I can wear something that I've made and I want to share that with the world.
