We will be meeting 6:00pm on Wednesday June 5th at the Massanutten Regional Library, 174 S. Main Street, Harrisonburg. If you can’t make it right at six, that’s okay. Our speaker will begin her talk at 6:30.
This month’s speaker is Luanne Austin.
Luanne Austin began writing for Harrisonburg’s Daily News-Record in 1992. She’s won awards for her feature stories and weekly column from the Virginia Press Association, the American Press Association and the Amy Foundation. After leaving the DN-R staff in 2008, Luanne worked at JMU as an education writer and editor until retiring in 2021. The DN-R continues to publish her column, “Rural Pen”. She and her husband live on a small farm in Mount Sidney and have three children and numerous grandchildren.
Luanne will share a brief history of her journalism career, including the changes that occurred in the industry in the 1990s and 2000s, discuss column-writing and read from a few of her columns. She will challenge us with a writing exercise, field questions and ask a few questions of her own.
While we meet at the Library, we are not endorsed or affiliated with the library.
