Etiwanda Falls Hike

Details

Etiwanda Falls is a magical place of lush green woods and cascading water, an unusual site in the desert landscapes of Southern California. This is a “must see” location for hikers in the Inland Empire. The trail to the falls is a steady incline of about 1.5 miles one way with an elevation gain of around 800 feet, so it makes a good workout.
We will hike to the falls first. Then, on our way back down the Etiwanda Falls Trail, we will encounter another trail that explores the North Etiwanda Preserve. Absolutely beautiful and strange shrubs cover the landscape. Sights include the ruins of a settler's home from the 1880s.
I would call this a moderate hike. The trail is rocky and the falls splash slippery water everywhere, so please wear hiking boots! Most of the trail has no shade, so bring sunblock and a hat. Bring lots of water, too! No dogs are allowed because the preserve is a refuge for a number of rare and endangered species.
The total hike will be around 4 or 5 miles and 3 or 4 hours. Once we get back to our cars, please join me for dinner at nearby restaurant that we all can agree on.
