Humanist Monthly Program: Your Life On Stories

Details
Have you ever wondered what, exactly, a story is? Why do we tell them? What do they do for us? And how did they come about in the first place?
Our lives are so saturated by stories that it can be difficult to recognize just how dependent we are on them. They're how we communicate our history, news, and even the events of our day. They're how we entertain each other, teach our children, express ourselves, and (for some of us) make a living.
As we think critically about the existence of stories and the role they play in our lives, a deep and meaningful mystery begins to reveal itself.
If we as human beings are the result of unguided evolution, then stories are an organic outgrowth of that process as well. They must, therefore, perform some sort of key function for human survival, embody an evolutionary advantage, and help us live our lives in some fundamental way.
Join HCCO and Nathan B. Weller in October as we explore the mystery of storytelling and Nathan shares his thoughts on how to lead an enriched life through a deeper understanding of stories.
At 12:30, we'll have pizza in the meeting room! The formal part of the program starts at 1:00.
Speaker bio: Nathan B. Weller is a story consultant and content strategist by trade, a humanist by conviction, and an artist by default. He's also a writer, book worm, movie junkie, and storyteller. Drinker of coffee, tea, and whiskey. Rider of bikes and destroyer of pizza.
