Fahnestock Series: Charcoal Burners, Three Lakes, Old Mine Railroad Trails Loop
Wednesday 4/23 - 5:45 pm - slightly later start time than usual

Distance: 4.5 miles, Time: ~2 hours, Elevation gain: Less than 500 feet

Gear: Water, snacks if you wish, hiking boots, warm-weather wicking clothing, headlamp just in case

On Route 301, you will see a sign for the Charcoal Burners trail on the side of the road - the sign in the photo above. You can park on either side of the road on the shoulder. We will be taking the trail southward, which is on the opposite side of the road from the trail sign.

Our route will take us south on the the red Charcoal Burners trail for 0.8 miles, then we will turn left onto the yellow Old Mine Railroad trail. We will take the yellow trail for 0.55 miles to the blue Three Lakes Trail. We will briefly take a left to check out Hidden Lake, then we will turn back the way we came and continue on the blue trail for just over a mile. We will pass John Allen Pond and eventually come to Sunken Mine Road. We briefly turn right on the road and then make another right onto the yellow Old Mine Railroad trail for 1.1 miles. We follow that trail back to the red Charcoal Burners trail, and make a left to return to our cars.
