Join us for a once-in-a-season opportunity to experience one of Texas’s most breathtaking natural areas—the Davis Mountains Preserve—open to the public July 11–13, 2025 for a limited weekend event!
This is your chance to explore high desert landscapes, hike to Mount Livermore (the fifth-highest peak in Texas), camp under the stars, and connect with nature lovers from all over. The preserve is typically closed to the public, but during this special Open Weekend, you’ll have full access to hike, bike, birdwatch, stargaze, and camp at your own pace.
Know Before You Go:
- Bring your own food, water, and hiking gear
- No pets, drones, firearms, or generators allowed
- No cell service—plan accordingly and bring paper maps
- All waste must be packed out
- Weather in the mountains can change rapidly—prepare for hot days and cool nights
- It is a 7ish hour drive from Austin area
What to expect: You’ll have full access to trails, scenic drives, and primitive campsites from Friday morning through Sunday afternoon, with an optional group hike to Baldy Peak/Mount Livermore—a challenging 6–8 mile trek that rewards with sweeping summit views. At night, enjoy world-class stargazing under some of the darkest skies in North America. Throughout the weekend, you can take part in daily activities like birding, hiking, nature photography, or simply relaxing in the cooler mountain air.
This trip is perfect for hikers, birders, outdoor photographers, stargazers, and anyone craving wide-open skies and off-grid peace. Come solo or bring friends—either way, you'll leave with memories and maybe a few new trail buddies.
