What we’re about

iMPACT is an inviting social space that encourages critical discussion on ethics and the state of design, data and product. It is a place where we can work together as a community to address the difficult challenges and wicked problems that are commonly faced by those in the tech industry. We want to promote learning and debate on the impact of our decisions in the products we create. Do we have a responsibility for our creations, and how can we take action?

Our goal is to bridge the divide between professionals in the tech industry and create a safe space for meaningful conversation and collaboration, mentorship, and personal and professional growth.

Join many other UX and industry-related professionals in the following:

• Creating conversation on diverse topics and industries (e.g. dark UX, data collection, unintended design implications)

• Sharing knowledge and experiences

• Applying ethics via practical tools and methods

Our events will range from guest speaker talks/panels and workshops, to office hours and group socials.

Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Events

Diversity and inclusion are top of mind for iMPACT and it is important to us that our events are inclusive and barrier-free. Some of the ways we do this are:

• Keeping our events free

• Hosting in accessible venues and seating arrangements

• Serving vegetarian/halal/kosher/gluten-free catering options

Speakers

We have a mandate to actively recruit representative speakers from all experience levels and professional backgrounds, ethnicities and religions, genders and sexual orientations, physical and cognitive abilities, etc., especially those from underrepresented communities in tech.

Code of Conduct

Our events are spaces for people to have candid, open, and honest discussions with one another. Given the nature of these events, disagreements may occur, however we encourage this critical discussion done in a respectful manner. We do not tolerate harassment, discriminatory, derogatory, or harmful language or behaviours of any kind.

Any member exhibiting behaviours contrary to our values and code of conduct will be given a warning, and if necessary, removed from the event.

We welcome the thoughts, opinions, and the feedback of our community in helping us shape our organization and achieve our mission, via our Slack channel, email, and Meetup group.
