About us
Welcome to the Inner Light Meditation Centre Townsville Meetup Group! We gather to explore and connect to the inner light within through various practices such as meditation, breathwork, qigong, sound healing, and kundalini practices.
Our meetups are centered around understanding ourselves through a non-dualistic lense that we are all One. We also delve into topics like the nature of reality, via our fortnightly Tea with Mo sessions, and Conscious Conversations.
Many of our sessions are offered via Energy Philanthropy - where there are no conditions placed on 'this service = this $': pay what you feel is right for you. Alli and Maurice (the directors) generously gift their time, money, and skills to allow this centre to be a place where community can come together for the purpose of healing and awakening, and your offerings support is to lessen the out-of-pocket expenses.
Join us on this transformative journey of self-discovery and personal growth, and come be part of an inviting community, and come home to yourSelf. All are welcome to explore the vast world of spirituality with open hearts and minds.

BOWL TEA CEREMONY - MEDITATION
This is a surprisingly easy way to meditate! Participants who come to experience Bowl Tea Ceremony often rebook again and again. We (Maurice and Alli) have fallen in love with tea and its medicinal and meditative properties.
The side handle teapot (yokode kyusu) allows us serve 7 participants, one server, and one assistant.
This is a 1-hour event each Monday and Friday morning from 7am until 8am. For those that are unable to attend the 7am sessions, we also offer a 90-minute session each Thursday evening and occasionally on the weekend later in the morning.
Payment – Your first time is free - it is on us! We love this so much we really want to share this with many. The sessions from then are on a sliding scale – this is an opportunity to contribute to the centre's running costs.
Things to Know - The centre is airconed. We sit on meditation cushions on the plush Mellow mats on the floor with a low table. There are also chairs if you require that seating. Blankets, bolsters, and cushions are also available for your comfort.
What to Expect
- This is a loving and accepting community created with intention by Mo and Alli.
- Either Mo or Alli, or sometimes other servers will be serving, with the other warmly greeting you when you attend.
- After being greeted, we enter the meditative space without talking. The ceremony during the weekdays are 45 minutes, 60mins on weekends, with 15 minutes to share your experiences.
- These sessions are an intimate space for gathering of up to 9 people per tea ceremony (7 participants, 1 tea server; 1 assistant). Occasionally we have a double table of up to 13 participants.
- 4 rounds of quality tea are served (typically Pu er, or Silver Needles tea, or black tea.
- Gentle music is played throughout the ceremony. We do not talk during the ceremony to allow us to tune into ourselves.
- At the end of the ceremony and the 4 rounds, we share a reading from the 2nd book of the Tao, then open up the invitation to share your experience. We are often surprised by what comes to mind in the presence of tea in silence.
**Bowl Tea Ceremony:**
A tea ceremony is a meditation practice, as you focus on the tea and yourself. As you drink tea, you also meditate noticing what is present in the stillness.
It is a beautiful mindfulness practice and a great way to take a break from our busy lives, to come into stillness and gain access to the information of our spirit and consciousness that is available to you in this mindfulness practice.
These sessions typically book out, as many people rebook after experiencing this surprisingly wonderful practice. The Benefits of this Meditation Practice:
- Receiving information - People often get a great deal of information -sometimes called 'downloads', or insights that they like to capture in a journal.
- Calming of the nervous system.
- Connection - to ourselves, and to others.
- Stillness, clarity, and help improve your wellbeing
- Medicinal properties of the tea.
- Encourages us to put pauses between our actions.
Please Note:
- We ask that you arrive 5-10 minutes early, to settle the mind and have either Mo or Alli explain what to expect.
- The bathroom , filtered water and some seating space is available before entering the ceremony.
We sincerely encourage you to come and experience this wonderful practice.
*Beyond the numerous hours Mo and Alli, co-directors of the Inner Light Meditation Centre, dedicate weekly, we also make substantial financial contributions to the centre's operational costs. Our goal is to serve the community, assist ourselves and others in calming the nervous system, finding their voice, connecting with self and others and illuminate their inner light. We deeply appreciate any contribution you are moved to make.
Mo and Alli.

Somalume Fridays - Biology-first breath sessions - facilitated by Ben Manderson
Inner Light Meditation Centre, 197-203 Flinders St, Townsville City, QL, AUA Biology-First Breath Experience
90 minutes | Small group | Friday evenings
Somalume Fridays are a guided breath-based experience designed to help your body return to coherence before the mind tries to explain anything.
These sessions begin with simple, grounded education — restoring clarity to commonly misunderstood spiritual and psychological language — followed by rhythmic breathwork supported by music, scent, and minimal guidance. The focus is not on analysing your experience, but on allowing your nervous system to regulate, integrate, and reset.
This is not therapy, performance, or catharsis-driven work.
It is a space to let biology come back online.
Participants often leave feeling centred, clear, and quietly future-focused — with a baseline they can return to in daily life.No prior experience is required.
Each session unfolds according to your own physiology and capacity.
Come as you are.Leave more aligned than when you arrived.
Tickets $25

Inner Listening - A Somatic Restorative practice - With Juanita
Inner Light Meditation Centre, 197-203 Flinders St, Townsville City, QL, AUBooking Link: https://www.trybooking.com/DETBR
This restorative practice invites you to slow down, soften, and turn inward.
Through gentle shapes, supported stillness, and intentional breathing, we explore the subtle language of the body — sensation, tension, release, and the quiet shifts that follow.
Each posture is offered as an opportunity to listen closely: to notice what is present, settle the nervous system, and reconnect with a sense of steadiness. Movement is minimal and unhurried, allowing your body to unwind at its own pace and in its own way.
You will be guided with invitational, trauma-informed cues that honour choice, autonomy, and comfort. Options and variations are available throughout, making the practice accessible for both beginners and seasoned practitioners.
Leave feeling spacious, supported, and more deeply connected to yourself (ticket pricing includes donation to the center).
No experience needed—simply bring yourself, wear something comfortable, and be ready to receive.
All props are provided.
All yogi levels welcome.A sublime offering for a Sunday mid-afternoon.
