About us
Situated in the multicultural, heritage suburb of Croydon in Sydney's inner west, our activities link ancient wisdom with contemporary society.
Through spiritual talks and discussion exploring the mystical, practical teachings of many faiths; through silent and guided meditations; yoga classes; retreats; festivals; theatre; and more - we provide an open-minded, reflective and creative space.
All activities are held in our renovated century-old building; comfortable, peaceful and spacious with soaring ceilings.
In keeping with our Indian/ Asian ambience shoes are left at the door. Disabled access provided.
Talks are given by Pravrajika Gayatriprana and Pravrajika Sridharaprana, senior nuns of Sri Sarada Math, the women’s wing of the Ramakrishna Order. Sri Sarada Math’s first centre outside India was established in Sydney in 1982.
The Ramakrishna Order was established in 1897 by Swami Vivekananda, one of the first to bring meditation and yoga philosophy to the West. He represented Hinduism at the first World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. Since its inception the Ramakrishna Order has served millions through its relief and rehabilitation work and many schools and hospitals.

Study of Chapter 16, Verses 2-3:
The Classification of the Divine & Non-Divine Attributes
Discussion Themes:
- GENTLE CONQUERERS: History shows that, ultimately, it is the gentle people who have conquered the world. A thoughtful Napoleon during his years of exile acknowledged that with all his attempts to conquer by the sword, it was Jesus Christ who truly conquered the world, winning the hearts of many, through love.
- DIVINE QUALITIES: In this chapter 16 of the Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna provides a list of 25 divine qualities of humanity at its best, including fearlessness, control of the senses, truthfulness, tranquillity, and more.
We're a multicultural group of varying ages, including our Vedanta Society members and friends. We always welcome new faces and hear new perspectives.

So many factors contribute to our happiness and general state of mind but given the fickleness of the external world, inner happiness is our only reliable source for a steady path through life. Learn more in the discussion:
- Meditation - Emotional Maturity Needed: Increased concentration power is one of many benefits gained from meditation, but it's a double-edged sword. An increase in power needs increasing emotional maturity and stability to manage it well.
- Yoga and Emotional Maturity: 'Many feel Yoga is just about concentration techniques. It is not so. It is about reorienting our entire personality, thought, emotion, will, and awareness. And emotional maturity is the most important criterion for yogic practices.'
- 'Catching' Emotions: Harvard and University of California studies show how infectious emotions are. Our state of mind can influence nearby friends. It's no surprise we can also catch others' stress from emails, social media, and texting; hence Yoga's emphasis on cultivating good influences, helping us face and digest bad ones.
- The Art of Attention: As a restless mind consumes time, and as our mental states develop neural traits, we should be aware of the quality of our thoughts and seek a calmer mind. The benefits are bountiful: greater powers of attention and concentration, a healthier mind and body, and a greater and more positive awareness.
- Teachings.
