What we’re about
The mission of the Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES) is to lead Colorado to an energy efficient and renewable energy economy through education, policy advancement, and economic development.
The Jefferson County chapter of CRES serves all of Jefferson County in Colorado, including Golden and the Denver suburbs. JCRES works to increase awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. We host meetings and events to help members and the public connect with the ideas and people that make renewable energy and energy efficiency happen.

See all- Electricity, Education, Entrepreneurship - A Solar Case Study from IndiaJefferson Unitarian Church, Golden, CO
In-person and live streaming (link will appear here later)
India’s largely coal based electricity grid has major reliability issues but the advent of cheap, decentralized solar PV provides new solutions for rural areas that go beyond making dry land arable through irrigation. Our presenter, Ranjan Sen, will introduce IEEE’s Smart Village project in West Bengal which in addition to generating electricity aims to educate locals and foster entrepreneurial projects made possible with solar power. It is also an example of an intriguing decentralized approach for education that allows for local development.

Mike Nelson recently retired as Denver7 Chief Meteorologist. He was one of the few weathermen courageous enough to insist that we must face the reality of climate change.Mr Nelson speaks about the enormous prospects for a Great American Super-Grid capable of supplying the entire nation with ample, clean electricity. A high voltage underground transmission system would create a lot of jobs, improve reliability, address our growing power demand, and yield a tremendous return on investment, while simultaneously working towards urgent climate goals.
Organized by New Energy Colorado (NECO) and the Colorado Renewable Energy Society (CRES) as part of a series of talks ahead of the annual Metro Denver Green Home Tour which is Saturday, October 3, 2025.
Please plan to stay for a reception with food, drinks, and conversations afterwards. Free but you're welcome to put something in the basket.
